Just wondering about different views about using doe decoys. Do they work? And what time of year? I have personally never had sucess..

Jay, I've had one for a few years now and use it sporadically. I have had both good and poor luck using it. I've had other does spot it and snort and turn tail.

Last year I set it up the day before rifle season and using a doe bleat I had a buck come in. I caught sight of him just off the logging road where the deke was set up. He was checking it out and then I lost sight of him. I then hit the grunt tube and while keeping both hands on my bow the tube fell from my mouth. At that point I realized he had been watching from a point where I couldn't see him. He turned tail and was gone.

Then I realized what was going on he was circling downwind of the deke and had I just sat still and not been impatient and fooled w/ the grunt tube he would have walked right in front of me at about 15 yds.

I have had some great success using a doe bleat the past couple of years, much better then I've ever had w/ a grunt tube.

I have had good sucess with them. I bought a new decoy last year called a Montana decoy it is the best Ihave seen so far. I put one up wind about 20 yards this helps with the cicrling down wind deal with bucks Good luck ;)

how would it work during the rut.........maybe combined with a good doe in heat scent?

I use a Rear Deer with a Tail Wagger and can honestly say I have seen it work well several times.

Last year I had 4 does come in from the right direction to clearly see the decoy and it held their attention long enough that using a grunt call brought them in.

I repeated to grunt and draw them back in for an hour. Later that day a young 4 pt came in following all the scent from the does.

Tail Wagger works great, but when it gets cold it eats batteries.
