Hadn't had a chance to post yesterday. Fished Big Lake in Oakland county at my friends house yesterday. Solid 7 inches of black ice. Man, was yesterday (Monday) cold! No snow on the lake made it treacherous walking. Damn, I forgot my ice creepers! We put out several tip ups and jigged for panfish. One flag, missed it. Caught a couple small bluegill, that was bout it. We were too lazy to walk out to the deep hole in those treacherous conditions. Pretty trippy watching the wind blow some snow squalls accross the ice; reminded me of being in a desert the way it was moving accross the lake. There were also quite a few "mini snow tornadoes" whipping up on the lake; a lot of turbulating snow vortices being kicked up with the wind and all. Toward the end of the day, the sunset was nice. Relaxed to a couple cold beers after a day on the ice. Its not always about catching fish; just being with good friends on a crisp day made it worthwhile.

DetroitIron,

I hit Big lake more than any other lake in the season. I have a friend that lives just around the corner from it. If you want to hit the deeper part of the lake without making the long haul from the boat launch, there is a spot on big lake road, on the northwest side where they park the seaweed cutters in the summer. when we fish the deeper areas, we usually just park the truck at that graded shore and take a nice short walk to the deeper spots. We've had a good bit of luck with crappie there about 150 yards southwest of the point w/ the sand bar and a largemouth or two tend to play with the tipups out there too!

Maybe we'll run into eachother sometime out there!
