What do you guys and girls think are the worst Fishing shows on the idiot Box, and why? Fred Trost always has some good bloopers and miscues. I sometimes think it is so bad that it ends up being Dang Funny. The best one I like is Larry Dahlbergs hunt for big Fish Clips. Hope you all have a great and safe Ice season.

Bill dance is a Joy to watch. He can be a little wacky at times but I have picked up many tips from his show.

2nd would be Babe Winkleman in his hay day.

I agree with Bill Dance, he is just like a regular guy. Absolute #1 on my list is anything Al Linder is in, be it the old In-Fisherman shows or Al's new show, despite the religous undertones. Al knows fish.

Fred Trost is SCUM in my opinion!

Fred aught to focus paying off his debt to Buck Stop Lure company if he hasn't yet for his smear job and refusal to pay it and at the same time expecting the taxpayers of the State of Michigan to put him thru Law School.

The last I heard he was busy trying to avoid to paying anything to them claiming he didn't have anything in his name. Hardly anyone I want to represent anything related to the Outdoor Sports.

Fred Trost is dog Dung in my book. Of course the legal definition of that in todays world is "Lawyer". If any of you doubt what I posted feel free to call Buck Stop Lure Company or their Attorney and or visit the Court Houses in Montcalm County or Lansing and look thru the court Record. You'll get a real eye opening about Fred Trost.(/rant)

I really like the shows the Linders do.

For freshwater, any show with the Linders. They not only know a lot about fishing, but they actually make shows that keep my attention. Addictive Fishing (saltwater) is probably the best fishing show though. That Blair Wiggins guy is nuts.

Yep Can not disagree with AL's shows and as far as the religous part, Nobody does more praying than me when I am out fishing. :p

Years ago when I used to get CBC an oriental fella I believe named Bob izumu had a show. His was a fun show because he was always smiling and having a good time.

Bob grew up just across the river, he's a canuck! Meet him at the Mucc show a few years ago, seems like a good guy, always liked his show, the wife and family would be inside Disney and he'd be outside the park fishing!!! Always liked his show, Dance with his special partners, Williams Jr. bangin the crappie, Linders, Winkleman, always like or enjoyed Jerry Mcginus, I thunk that's his name, fishin hole I think it was! Also, meet Dick Trost many moons ago, and if Fred is anything like his brother, Dick, well, I don't think I'd be hangin with either of them in the outdoors!!! Just not practical!!!

Bob's shows were a hit in this household!
Any of the old shows were great to watch mostly in part that I longed for experience back then.
Al Linder was my fav for years and still is.
But I gott tell ya this
Give me a TOAD SMITH anyday of the week, and toss an oreo cookie in that water while your catfish'n too :)
Yeah I didn't forget ol Doug Stange either :)
The list could go on and on .......

Does any one remember a PBS series called Rod and Reel. There was also the Rod and Reel Streamside. These were good solid fishing shows. I learned how to fish plastic worms for bass by watching that show. Old Bill Saiff was a big lake fisherman on Ontario. You just Don't see shows like that anymore. Most of them now are all hyped up with tackle and techniques.

The worst shows have to be the bass fishing ones.

Was it Canadian Sportfishing or The Reel Fishing Show hosted by another couple of guys (Italo and Henry) from Ontario that was pretty informative and funny at times too. Bob Izumi and the Lindners' show were both excellent and gave a lot of fairly specific info to use. Whatever happened to all these good shows, anyway?

Give me info. What line, rod, reel, lure weight and why you are using that combination. Teach me a technique. Not that I dont enjoy the other shows, but I really enjoy using something I've learned next time I go out on the water. Prob why I like this site so much.:)

The worst "fishing show" (and I use fishing show in the loosest sense of the word) has to be Fred Trost. That show is terrible. They show clips for 15 years ago because they are to lazy to go get current info. I could make a better show without hardly trying. I wish PBS would drop him.

I really like just about any other fishing shows. I like the In-fisherman, and other shows like that that try to teach new techniques and things rather than just watching someone else catch fish. Althought I do watch those shows too. I REALLY liked Fish On, but that got cancelled. # hot women in bikinis catching Marlin, you can't beat it.

I like Jimmy Houston 'cause he is downright funny...BassMasters are enjoyable too...I think any redfish tournament that has a slot limit is one of the most useless ideas ever thought of and therefore is my least favorite to watch...

I like In-Fisherman and the newest show to come out on "The Outdoor Channel" titled "The Next Bite". It features Kieth Kavajyk, Gary Parsons and Perte Mania. They're shown giving tips and fishing for all the toothty critters in places I can actually go to if I wanted to, without robbing a bank to do it.

Best - Anything with Al Linder, James Linder and Dan Sura. The In- Fisherman crew does agood job. Worst -"SON!" Roland Martin since it became a running infomercial. ABSOLUTE WORST - Fred Trosts garbage, give it up Fred, Mort Neff is spinning in His grave for what You have done to the show. My .02 - Bob.

The worst in my opinion has got to be Bill Dance. What will Bill be fishing for this week? Let me guess........Bass! It seems like every show is a rerun and he has been catching that same poor fish for as long as I can remember. Sorry Dance lovers. His bloopers are pretty funny I have to admit.

The best is In-Fisherman. They are informative and catch anything under the sun(or moon).

Go Fisch is also a good show. Not sure if that is the name of the show, but it's the boat name. Big boat, nice looking wife, your own chef and captain and fishing all over the world! Doesn't get any better than that!

Best-Lindner's Angling concepts, or In-fisherman
I loved the mention of Toad Smith, brings back memories of him kissing a flathead.

Worst is Trost by far, I just tune in on Thursday nights to listen to the theme song. It takes me back to when the show was respectable and informative, when I was maybe 5 or 6 years old and my dad would not miss a show. I'm glad they went back to the michigan outdoors theme instead of that aweful practical sportsman.

I also have to nominate the red fish tourney's also. Whoever thought of that idea of you can't bring a fish that is to big to the weigh in doesn't understand the concept of tournament fishing. Can someone explain that to me? :dizzy:

I've heard of Red fish tournaments that are based solely on the number of spots the fish has. Doesn't matter how big the fish is, as long as it has the most spots.

Keith and Gary are hilarious!! They have an episode coming up on Erie down by Vermillion, and a fall walleye trip on Bay de Noc also.

They are called slot limits. Some states have slot limits to protect the larger fish, which are predominately females, so they can keep spawning. so you end up with a minimum and maximum length for the fish you are allowed to keep, a "slot". It's a very effective managment tool.I wish we had them on pike in MI, say a 24-36" slot, that would go a long ways towards producing some real nice fish in our lakes.

If you get fox sports net on direct tv there are quite a few. One of my favorites is a show from Wisconsin called Waters & Woods. The hosts name is Gillespee but we call him the hollerin guy because he gets so excited when he catchs a fish. Anyway he does a new show every week. Whats on Saturday was taped Tuesday & Wednesday, not 6 months ago. Shows are mostly from Wisconsin but some from Bay De Noc or Erie or Minnesota. He's always fishing with Pete Mania or some other guide. He does a lot of ice fishing in the winter. I wish he was based in Michigan. Other favorites are In Fisherman or the Linders show or Bob Izumi. Don't care much about sothern bass fishing or the saltwater shows about stuff I'll never do.

Anything with MUSKIE in it! The Next Bite is great- Maina is the best muskie stick in the world. In-Fisherman is probably the best all species of all time, the new Lindner's Angling Edge or whatever is sweet too. Jim Lindner is the second best muskie angler in the world. Simply Fishing, Bob Meshikomer's show that is now on the Men's Channel I think, is really good in spite of Bob's presence. He's pretty much a jackhole, but he spends more money on film than any other show. He is usually muskie fishing and he always has the STRIKES on tape. Plus, he is usually using topwater too- a muskie on top is the greatest thing going in fishing in my opinion

The worst. Tred Barta, So far when its suppose to be on,OLN, Its not. He supposedly fishes but all i've seen on the show's that are on is him missing about a 10-12 deer with his stickbow wounding one. then finaly connecting on one. Any time Ive seen his show its been the same one (about 5 times now) The begining is funny, He finds a scrape then takes the dirt and rubs it on his face and on his cloths, than later he falls in the river and rolls downstream while his kid laughs his ***** off at him.

Strange He has a kid but no mention of the wife, she probably left along, long time ago!

what, no one here has seen fish on! ? ;)

i think it is/was on ESPN. 3 hot chicks (scantly clad) and some tool deep sea fishing w/ guides. can't go wrong there.

in-fisherman is the most informative if thats what your looking for in a fishing show:D

I can't believe know one as mentioned Angler's Diary with host Ron Peterson.

The shows are informative and he fishes all species. His show is Michigan based with different lakes every week.
The thing I like about it is he has 3 different co-host.
kevin long- bass
john bergsma- walleye
and another guy that fly fishes
however no ice fishing other than John's Minnesota walleye trip, and very little pike or muskie.
I'm just surprised no one has said anything about Ron. He has been on tv for as long as I can remeber

Great subject...
Bob Izumi's show was great. Lot's of variety and new ideas and techniques.
The In-Fisherman magazine and show were always great. Reading the magazine regularly will make you into a fisheries biologist.
One thing that has been annoying me about In-Fisherman is the relentless promotion of the bait-of-the-week. For instance, the Rapala X-rap. It was in the mouth of the bass on the cover of the magazine, an add on the back of the magazine, and featured in an article praising it's ability to catch fish like nothing else available. Then i turned on Al Lindner's new show the same week and he is talking about how the X-rap dominated some recent bass tournament. Give me a break already!! I hate to be sold a line of BS like that.

I really like watching Allen Warren and Jimmy Houston, BUT I just cant stand BIll Dance.

You will notice the Bill Dance's show is in some farm pond and he catches a 12 inch bass and takes his rad back and forth like 50TIMES to get that monster in.

I like action!!

That's funny B-inthe-P, because I couldn't remember the name, but I think that was the one I was going to say is my least favorite.
Is it the young guy with some kind of East Cost accent, and he has one-on-one fishing contests with his viewers, and there is a lot of taunting and hollering, like a street basketball game?
Boy, I would throw that cat in the bass pond after a half-hour of that LOL.
But, different strokes for different folks.

5. Fish on...the fishing was not very good but every anglers dream, 3 chicks in bikinis fishing with one guy .
4. walkers cay chronicals....cant beat the video footage, big saltwater flats fish on light tackle (usually fly), makes me want to move to florida and get skin cancer right about now.
3. Jimmy houston...A great all around guy whose goofy and wacky as can be, a great personality compared to roland. Also a decent writer if you read his books sometime.
2. In-fisherman stuff with Al linder....Very informative and always has great footage of some monster fish, usually in the midwest.
1. Larry Dahlburg Hunt for Big fish.....its only a 5 minute clip style show but its absolutetly incredible, interesting style of editing and filming. He travels the globe in search of the biggest, toughest, most exotic fish fish on the planet. http://www.huntforbigfish.com/

Guess I'll go ahead and jump in with my 2 cents. In-fisherman and Angling Edge are great for information and tips. I've been watching fishing shows for 20 years and haved learned alot from the Linder's, Doug Stange, and Bob Sura. Can't forget "Bro" Brosdahl and Dave Genz when they're ice fishing with the Linder crew as well. I also loved Babe Winkelman and Bob Izumo when I was a kid too. They fished for Walleyes most of the time. Also have a fond place in my heart for Jimmy Houston. I'm a Crappie maniac, and I always loved seeing Jimmy get so excited over a calico and then kiss it and throw it back in. Fishin hole was great too with Jerry McGinnis. For the guy that made the earlier post, remember the theme song? "Good times pass, but always last...in a memory." Man, that takes me back. Fish on was awesome too, but I never learned anything informative about fishing from that show. All I ever wanted to do was toss that turd off the boat and take his place in the middle of those 3 hotties. Gotta hand it to em. Those 3 sure could handle a fishin rod.:tdo12:
Fred Trost sux. I haven't watched that show in ages. My vote for worst show is One last cast with Shaw Grigsby. His voice and his maneurisms drive me nuts. Every show is "flippin" or something dumb for 14 inch Bass. Not to mention that he looks like a bag of hammers. How did he become a pro?

For any Bass entusiasts out there. Orlando Wilson was the best. Every episode showed that guy pulling in the biggest hog Bass you ever seen. Okeechobee, Toledo Bend, you name it, that guy was always chasing double digit pounders. "You're watching thee Orlando Wilson fishin show." Used to love that song.

I am kinda getting tired of bass shows, I like anything that has a focus on anything else that is freshwater and anything saltwater. One of my favorites was a show someone did up on Reindeer Lake in Canada for Northern Pike, amazing, I have been wanting to go up there ever since I saw that show. I just saw a Halibut show on on-demand cable from AK, man they had some tiny fish compared to what I got on my trip up there to Homer in 98! I should send in my film.

Bill Dance is horrible. When I want to know how to catch bass down south on a private pond I'll watch it otherwise its useless. He could use bread for bait and still catch the same bass. Infishermen is the best because of the variety and fishing on "real" fishing lakes.

I like to watch Bill Dance he is a riot and as far as a guy that can use bread to catch BIG BASS, hey i wish i could. I wonder if i contacted him if he would tell me what brand it is so i could get some, if i had to guess i would say HILLBILLY PRIDE.

My all time favorite outdoors show is Fred Trost. I'm 18 years old and have been watching him ever since I was a little kid. I like how he makes things simple in the outdoors like not preaching trophy hunting/fishing and having fun. I also like his legal segments which are pretty funny sometimes. My next favorite has to be michigan outdoors and In-Fisherman right behind it. My absolute least favorite is Rob Trot. I can't stand him in real life or his show. :bash:

Best for me is Bob Izumi "Real Fishing" went one show without catching a fish haven't seen that on any other show, plus he fishes for everything and has some cool guest; Bobby Orr etc.
Lindner's Angling Edge is a great show, always learn something watching.
In-Fisherman can be a little too detailed for me. Turn TV off when Shaw Grigsby is on his voice and the same old same old gets to me.

Best: Real Fishing with Bob Izumi, Anything the Lindners do..Just because they fish real places with real fish in our latitude, and show us HOW they do it instead of just cranking up some pond planted fish that have not been fed for two days because there is going to be a fishing show filmed there. Worst: The two Ts, Trost and Trott..Either one of them couldn't catch those same hungry pond fish, probably couldn't find the pond without a guide to hold their hands either.

I loved Bob Izumi or In Fisherman shows. Bob Izumi was a crack up. I miss those shows, it was nice to see someone fish for something besides bass.
