Ausable river

Fished the back waters of the foote dam over the weekend and had some good gill and pike fishing. Got alot of nice gills and put back a ton of hammer handles. The fishing was good but the trail to get to the river was steep going down and hard getting back up. The ice was about 8 iches and the temp on sunday morning was 1 below 0. We we fishing in 4 to 6 foot and the water was clear. We were using small red tear drops with spikes.

Thats what I like to hear, gills and pike. I think I'm heading to Cooke Dam this weekend. Maybe I'll give Foote a try too.

From US.23 take the road to the old air base and go to the end of the base and turn left. Go left and follow that road about 9 miles. There is a mile marker 1525 on the left after you pass a small village. the road goes in about a half mile There are trails to the lower, middle, and upper landing.
