Crystal Lake/Lake Trout?

Some guys from down here went up to Crystal Lake last year and did real well on the Lake Trout. I've never been there. Buddy and I were thinking about going up this weekend. Would sure appreciate some advise.

No ice on Crystal as of last sat.

I was in Beulah today so I stopped down by the beach. The lake is frozen out as far as I could see with binoculars, which was well past Railroad Point. Not sure about the west end, which is where the deep water and lake trout are, but it is always the last part of the lake to freeze. There were two shanties (probably portables, I couldn't tell for sure) just east of RR Point, not too far out. No activity yet off Beulah.
We're supposed to get a bunch of snow and wind tonight, it's just now starting. Hopefully most of the snow will blow off the ice and more cold weather will keep it tight and make more.
If things clear up tomorrow, I'll take a ride around the lake and report back here when I get back in.

Is it normal for Crystal to freeze up late?

All the big, deep lakes freeze up late up here, snow usually hampers the ice in this area, too. Torch is still open for the most part, some ice at north and south ends, not much yet. My lake, Intermediate, froze early this year, usually it doesn't freeze till at least mid-January.

Sorry I didn't post here earlier today, but with last night's snow and wind, I've been kept pretty busy today around my house and helping some other folks with weather related problems.
I didn't get a chance to check out Crystal but I hope to get to it tomorrow. All last night's snow (about 10 inches) won't help but the bright side is that there were strong winds along with it and I'm hoping that most of the snow blew off the ice. I will try to have some better info tomorrow evening.
