Went to green lake Saturday night to try for some smelt...Went out the launch in the rustic campground. I fished probally 75 yards out in about 60 fow. We were out from 4:30-11:30 and action was very slow, seemed the fish were really moving around in the water column (one fish at the bottom and the next fish 20 foot down) They seemed to love the wax worms the most and I didn't get any action on minnows. Was using glow halis and had red daichi hooks tied above it..seemed to get most the action on the red hooks...There was about 6-8 inches of very solid ice...Hopefully will do better next time

Hey, i was wondering how you made out at Green Lake. Sorry to hear about the luck... or lack of it. As i said in the other post, we hit em pretty hard there on the northernmost boat launch a few weeks back, but i guess they are just being picky! I know what you mean w/ the beercicles; we did a tournament at Carp Lake, near mackinaw this past saturday. Absolutely the coldest and most unbearable conditions i've ever fished in. but hey, the perch made up for it! :-)...

i think we had about 30 or so between 2 of us. Probally 300 hits...I think if i did it over again I would use 1/2 a wax worm

Instead of 1/2 a wax worm, get some spikes. Thats what we were using, with the green glow hali's and we had a nice haul those 2 nights. The Green lake smelt we caught are on average, 1-1.5 inches smaller than what we usually catch on Cedar lake up near traverse so i assume the spikes may be a little more tempting to them :)

Man I tried spikes and they just didn't seem to want mine (probally because I ordered them from OH) wax worms were the only thing the little buggers would bite in my shanty...I will have to come back up in a couple of weeks and try again
