Fish hatchery to educate children
ELMIRA - The Jordan River National Fish Hatchery is hosting a children's educational program once a month during winter.
The program is intended for elementary students and is an effort by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to increase public awareness of the service's programs in the Great Lakes region.
The "Fish are Fun" program begins on Jan. 18 with a session on lake trout. On Feb. 15 there will be a session on brook trout and on March 15 a program on ex-otic invaders. Programs will begin at 6 p.m. each scheduled session and will last 90 minutes, beginning with a tour of the hatchery and including hands-on activities and animated presentations about the featured fish.
The hatchery is on Turner Road, six miles north of Alba and two miles west of U.S. 131. Call (231) 584-2461 for more information.
