Just got the new issue of In-Fisherman today. Very interesting article about winter river walleye. The structure they reccomend is essentially the same types of places I fish, but they say they do better with small ring worms (ie a zipper worm etc) in the cold water period than using my standard cold water bait, a jig and minnow. I'll most likely have to use a lot heavier jig than they are suggesting (1/16-1/4 oz.) to get down in the St Clair R., but am anxious to try it.

I read a good article recently about using 5 inch jigworms. (is that the same general worm you are talking about?) I like the idea of drop shotting them. I had no idea they were a good walter bait. Need to find a picture.

They mentioned a few different worms, suggesting 4-5" sickle tail ring worms as the best. All the ones they pictured were rigged on a jig head.

That #7 is what they are talking about, I bet the others have their days too.
