Long time walleye, perch, pike, etc man. Being outa St. Ignace, spent most of my time traveling down to Burt Lake, over to Munuscong, the whole St. Mary's, Drummond, ON, and any other place within a decent drive. But, cause of all the driving never really got into spearing.

Till now.

Just built my first spearing shack and spear(s). But I don't wanna go for pike, too easy. I wanna go for whitefish. Having not spent a stitch of time fishing whitefish, I know as much about getting them little buggers as Clinton knew about keeping his hands off the interns.

So, my question is, can I listen to all the advice I'm getting on fishing for whitefish, you know, the 3,349 ways to chum, and just replace the rod with a spear, or am I going to be missing sompin.

More than welcome in my shack. I'm just building a new sled to haul the shack on. Some friends borrowed my old one and brought it back in pieces. Figures.I'll probably get her out this weekend.

I was just down at Burt. Not to hot on the fish, ice looks nasty too. I was at Maple, haven't heard too much about Hoppies. Haven't heard too much about anywhere actually.

Not sure on spearing them, but the two times I have fished for them through the ice was on Little Traverse Bay, out of Petoskey. That being said ... we were in 80 fow (as I remember it). Might have to make a few extensions for the spear handle if you go there. :yikes:
