Ice becomming very unsafe in SW MI

I have went out the past 3 days and all 3 days someone has fallen in. I fell in last night, but luckily I only went in to my knee on my left leg and was able to step out before i went all the way in. I was walking in the middle of the channel where everyone else had been and wham in I went. That same night another guy fell in and went to his hip. The previous day a guy fell in and went to his armpits and luckily he pulled himself right out. Today a guy was fishing and the ice began to bow and he just stayed in the same spot. What a fool! Finally the ice just gave and he went for a swim, but luckily he got right out too. Too many close calls the past few days, and with the next 2 days being warm with rain it's going to be a disaster waiting to happen. Maybe everyone in SW MI should wait til after this cold spell we are about to have before they venture out onto the ice again. Good luck fishing everyone and be safe.

Hopefully some of the ice will stay untill Friday with that high of 19.

That's probably good advice for S.E. Mich. too. If everybody makes it to Sat., we'll probably be OK. The weather is going to bottom out starting on Fri. Everybody stay safe!! Capnhook

Some of the rain we are going to get will be good, as long as it's not too much. It will be good for the little amount of ice we do have to get the snow off of it. By Saturday everything should begin to firm up quite a bit. I know I'll have my butt on the ice Saturday if I have to wear floaties on my friggin arms. LOL!!! did a little checking today on my favorite holes. majority of them, shore ice sucks. i was able to get down by the ottawa marsh and check. other than chunk ice floating, i was able to carefully get to one spot 2 inches of rock hard and 3 inches of snow on top. be careful.
