Fishing report for the Saginaw River from Woody at Live Bait. Just got off the
phone with Woody, Jan 4, 2001. Woody says "Happy New Year" to all you
fisherman! The report has not changed much from the last one as the fishing
hasn't turned on much at all yet. Don't give up because it will. The ice is
anywhere from 6 - 8 inches thick with spots you will find 10 - 12 inches. The
snow has blow around and some melted and refrozen. So the snow is not a
factor on the ice. Still use caution all the time when out on the ice, especially
when close to the bridges. Fish are being caught at at the regular spots
Hooters, KFC, Wicks Park and the Beanery. BUT, if you do catch fish most are
reported to be smaller fish, many undersize. Last Friday Dec 29 I did weigh in
a 10.19 caught at KFC and a 7.58 caught at wicks. So fish are there, its a
matter of catching them. Seems the bigger fish are caught in shallower water
less than 12'. Also fish high for the suspended fish as it might surprise you.
Fisherman are having there best luck on Char/White Jigging Rapalas or Char
Jig & Minnow. The evening bite around 4PM - 6PM has been the best. We will
try to give a new updated report on this site every 2 or 3 days OR as bite or
ice conditions change. We are open from 6am to 6pm 7 days for your
convenience. We are at corner point of Michigan, Mackinaw, and Gratiot. You
are more than welcome to call us at 517-797-8100 during working hrs. for any
more up to date info I have. Remember guys and gals if you call Woody, all he
asks is for your business. Small price to pay for this honest up to date
report.
