I saw in another post that Gino's would have some type of trailer selling bait and coffee. Does anyone know what the parking situation is going to be this year? I know there was talk of this earlier, but i never really saw a definite word. Thanks

Theres a sign that says,,, "Ice Fishing Parking, $5.00" tacked to the telephone pole in Gino's lot. That was during the week,, not sure how the weekends will be.

Would'nt it be better to just buy a yearly pass from metro or the dnr launch.
It would be much cheaper if you go out alot and either place is not far from Geno's.......just my .02

shadow the fishing is 300% towards gino's due to the spillway empty's out south of Gino's and the currect moves north. Anyway that is my take on why the fishing is better there. I grew up 5 miles away from there and have fished it my whole life.
I thought I heard Gino's wasn't going to allow parking on weekends, trying to get back into the catering hall business???

Sorry if It sounded wrong I was simply stating that it would be cheaper to park at those places with an annual sticker and make the walk if it doesnt bother you or if you have a machine its not a problem at all.
As far as the fishing ..... I agree its better

I have no machine, so it's pretty easy for me to park at Gino's and walk straight out basically. It's still a little bit of a walk, but if they're biting I don't really mind.

I park at the DNR site just off Crocker and walk out, during the week it isn't bad, but on weekends if your not there early, go somewhere else or stay home as the parking lot gets filled up early and they won't let you in.

Even from Gino's we still walk out the better part of a quarter of a mile. Dragging our gear by hand... 150lbs of stuff.

I usually go straight out from the launch, I go out about a mile, walking and dragging my stuff too. Last few years it was dragging a jet sled, this year I will be dragging the Fish Trap Guide.

It located off Jefferson Avenue just south of Metro Beach in Harrison Twp.
Do a "MapQuest" search for "Gino's" in "Harrison". When you go you'll know it when you get there! :yikes:

There is a bait shop/party store just south of the corner of Jefferson/Metro Parkway (16M or Big Beaver road). Also if they run out there use to be another bait shop further south on Jefferson where it crosses over a little canal maybe 1/2 mile south of the first one I spoke of.

I get the metro pass every year and when there is enough ice...I just park there and ride over to the genos area !! Same goes for cotton rd...I park at the DNR ramp and just head over to my spots.....I just try to stay on traveled areas if I haven't been out in a while to know the Ice Conditions!! One word of caution to anyone who does this is....there is no rush...If you do not know the ice area...drive SLOW and use your eyes to scan the area your driving on good!! I would hate to see anyone run into a gas pocket or a area that broke away and re-froze so there is a spot of only a inch or two!!

I have not been out htere...but with the conditions we have had recently...I will wait to go out of ginos a few more weeks. That area can be tricky, and if its not forzen all the way across the lake, you could be sitting on a floe real fast..
I would wait till there are some good solid reports.

Well...I will be on foot...dragging a HUGE sled carrying way to much crap...so I need the closeest spot with good ice to the biggest fish (I hope thats not asking to much)...Heck I may not even be able to make it on to the ice withthis huge tank of a sled we built

NO! NO! NO! And the snow we are getting today and tommorrow only complicates it. It will lenghthen the time. considerably, that it will take to secure good ice. Youngbuck, play it safe and smart. Give yourself a chance to become an "OLDBUCK" someday. Just One Mans Opinion. Capnhook

youngbuck26 , I think your going to have to go north for this weekend to find safe ice.

You might have to go wwwaaaaayyyy North to get good enough ice to walk around without getting nervous. I was on Otsego Lake last week just before the warmup and the ice was spooky then. And that was BEFORE THE RAIN & WARM TEMPS. You might have to try the UP.

I made the tour today and all I can say about Gino's is STAY OFF THE ICE..... Geno's can be very tricky it is the last to freeze, Stay tuned we'll let you's know when it's safe. Safety is number one with us MS.com
