My truck is gonna need new tires pretty soon. I need some advice. It's a stock full size ext. cab short box ChevyZ71. It currently has Cooper Discoverer LT265/75R16. They are PATHETIC!!! I mean downright embarrassing! If I go offroad, it had better be into a parking lot or I'm walkin'! I had a Ford Escort that got around better in snow.

I had an S10 blazer with these same tires(except 15") and it was about unstoppable. So I put them on my truck and, as you may have suspected by now, I was not pleased.

I drive this truck daily to work so I don't want too aggressive of a tread. But, when we get a couple inches of snow, I don't want to have to shovel my driveway before I park my truck. I've had fullsize trucks in the past. It's been a while since I had one that didn't have a few inches of lift and 33" or bigger tires. But I've never had trouble getting around like I do with this one.

Thanks,
Glen

I like the BF Goodrich All Terrain tires. They work great in snow and mud, yet not super loud on the road.

Really Steve? All the trucks I've been in with the BFG AT's have been very quiet. Do they get louder when the tread wears down? I was considering them for my truck.

I also like the looks of the Kelly AWR's. I think that's the right one. A few of my friends have them, and are happy with them. One guy uses his truck to plow snow.

I don't care for the Goodyears that come stock on the newer Chevy and Dodge trucks. Great for highway use, but not very good in the snow. At least in my opinion.

Had B.F.G.'s AT's on my Dodge run them for 65thousand miles. No problems at all.

They hummed some on the freeway. Any truck tire with wide lugs are going to make some noise.

Have Goodyear wranglers on my Ford, 10 thousand miles and have a very slow leak in one of them. Like 5 pounds a week.

Um, that was supposed to read "yet not super loud".

After I posted my reply, I read your post again and kinda' thought that was what you meant. Thanks for clearing that up though.

I can't say enough about Goodyears. My current vechicle is a 97" F-150 4X4 Off Road. At 85K I replaced the stock Goodyears that still had lots of tread, but I'm the nervous type. I replaced them w/ the Goodyear ATS, ( I think). They are more agressive then the originals and are just as quiet, Can't be more pleased. Over the past 30 odd years Goodyears have never let me down, which is more than I can say for many of the others I've tried. My $0.02!

Thanks for all the replies. I was thinking the best tires I've ever had on a stock truck were Goodyear Vectors(or something like that). I don't think they're made any more. The Coopers were always great on my lifted trucks and my S10. But for some reason they suck on the truck I have now. Heck, maybe it's the truck?

Thanks,
Glen

I have an 88' Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 and I have the BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A in the KO model. (Don't know what the KO is for).

I have never had that truck stuck since buying those tires, and in fact had it in about 18 inches of mucku mud and still managed to walk it out. ZERO problems in the snow last winter.

I have them in a 285/70R16

I believe that size costed 179.00 a tire, and my understanding is that Belle Tire or no one else can give you a break on those because BFG sets a national price on them, and you will find the same price anywhere you go.
