State Park to stay open for winter camping

Those hoping to camp in Ludington State Park between January and March will be able to do so, just as they have in the past. When asked about the impending closure, Park Manager Mike Mullen revealed that it had been called off.
Mullen said he received an e-mail in the last week stating that the decision to close several campgrounds for the winter had been reviewed and rescinded. The e-mail stated that parks that offered winter camping in 2003-2004 will also offer it in 2004-2005, Mullen said.
Mullen said camping will be restricted to the front loop of the Beechwood campground, which was the standard arrangement prior to last winter, when the Cedar campground loop was open instead so improvements could be made in Beechwood.
Park users will want to keep in mind that Saturday starts a new year and new stickers will be required for entry to the park. New annual permits are available at the park office for $24.
