Did a brief driveby at Higgins this weekend. The north end froze over completely I heard on the 24th, but I would not be surprised if it opens back up this week during the warm-up.
I also saw a few shanties out there on Sunday as well on the south end.

Spent the new year at the cottage.... I was suprised the north lake ice survived the massive winds we had. The shore ice looked good, not sure about the deep water as I wasn't in a position to fish that weekend. With the temps below freezing I bet you'll see people fishing the DNR (smelt) and maybe sunken island this weekend......

Fished the south end yesterday. 1-04-05 . The shore ice re-froze and was 7" and very sold...There was one quad out there, not me. To fish deeper than 12fow the ice was only 3"...Good black ice.Met mountainman there and caught some nice perch,mm had a nice rainbow on his perch rig for a moment.the perch were between 7-12",kept a few for the wife and I for dinner tonight. We saw some perch that were 14-17"...They looked like half spent salmon, grey, dark and were always surrounded by 2 dozen 10-12" perch.Must have been the big females that breed the lake?? I can honestly say I`ve had perch fever now... :yikes: Cant wait to get back out there for some trout and gator(pike)... :fish:
