View Full Version : Halloway Crappie
Fished Halloway for a couple of hours Christmas day. We were fishing a creek arm N of Mt Morris Rd, caught a ton of crappie, but the biggest was about 6". I put one out on a tip up and about 15 minutes later we had a flag....my 7 yr old fought it for about 10 minutes, when he got it to the hole I saw it sure wasn't the monster pike I thought it was. It was a 20# Channel Cat. Needless to say, he was thrilled, but was certain he didn't want to touch it to put it back.

Nice job, was going to hit that same spot soon, what time of day did you fish?
We were out late afternoon. I think you are thinking of the arm on the east side, we were in the one on the west side. The one on the east side is better IMHO, but we can walk down to the west side arm through the in-laws woods.

How much ice on that spot? Were you up in that arm or out towards the main channel? I want to try it up in there but I dont want to get wet!!!
There was 2.5-4" of good ice. we were jigging in about 2' of water, the tip up was set in about 5' out at the end of the arm. Looked fairly solid all the way across, we saw 4 deer cross the lake.

thanks paul. stay off the main channel and you won't get wet, looks a little too iffy in the middle for me.
Yep, thats why we watched the deer cross, but stayed on the safer water behind the point. That neck down above the bridge can be dicey no matter how much ice is in the arms.
