Has anybody ever fished this lake for walleyes? I have fished there and caught pike, smallies, largemouths and steelhead but have never caught walleye. It seems to be a great fishing lake but would like to get some walleye someday. Are they in there in fishable numbers? I would think it would be great for them.

Yep, good fishing can be had by the state boat launch. Go straight until you find a little deeper water and go from there. Good Luck.

yes there are quite a few walleye in portage lake. first ice look to the far west end of the lake in the 25-35ft mark and you will see about a dozen people out there pike fishing every day. for walleye fish about 100 yds to the north of them there is a gravel hump out there.pearl cleo jigging spoons tipped w/minnows! not a bad idea to set up a tipup for a pike or three also.
