By the time I get Home from work it's dark. I rarely catch gills or pumpkinseed's after dark. Do they just not bite after dark? Are Crappie the only thing (panfish) I can fish for after dark? What about perch? Thanks for your help.

I catch a lot of gills after dark. On my lake the best spots seem to be over deeper (20'-25') mud flats. The gills will suspend throughout the water column feeding on the algea and plankton, this is where a vex comes in very handy. I use a small white glow jig tipped with whatever bait they're hitting that day, if you don't have a vex to tell you where the fish are just slowly fish the entire water column, you'll catch fish 2" off bottom and 2' below the ice.

i have caught bigger perch before while fishing after dark for walleye using jigging spoons and rapala's tipped with minnow heads.

There are a couple lakes or should I say borrow pits along the US 10 loop that goes around Clare & Farwell that only produce when you light your lantern.
It was a first for me too , the first time that I was turned on to it. But you can fish them all day and maybe pick up a few dinks, but come sundown the BULL gills come out to play.

A lake I often fish the gills seem to shut down at dark but we have found they fire back up an hour or two after dark.
