I have managed to sit down here and there to start restocking for next season. I begain this year with the Garside Gerglers( pardon my spelling...I am too lazy to look it up and no matter how I spell the name it just looks wrong) So, three dozen ready for Bass-Gills and trout in yellow, white and green. Next..Hendricksons then Sulfers and maybe some parachute Adams.
The winter is cold and spring is not that far off.

Tight lines all and great tying.

Gartside Gurglers .... a fly by Jack Gartside

Are you using those for trout?

Thanks for the correct spelling. Yes, I have used them for trout in stilll water or back water times for grins and chuckles and yes, I have caught a few trout on them. This is one strange fly but now and then it is a producer. So far the two colors that seem to work best are Yellow and white with Green a distant third. In smaller sizes...6's we subsitute marabou with some flashabo for the tail.

I never got the chance to use them at night but I suspect a few in larger sizes just may be good night flys for trout, they cast much easier than standard night flies.

I have been using a white gartside gurgler for a couple of years now. I originally bought down in Florida for fishing in the everglades. I then tried it for smallmouth up here. Works great for river smallies, even better than my sneaky petes.

Molson, thanks for posting the web site. I do not have a camera to post pictures, would love to but it is just not in the budget. If I can find someone with a camera will try to see about posting it.

I do a couple things different from the original.

Hook size..#6-3906B work well for all around.
Back, I like to use the Craft foam from hobby store like Michels.
Tail, Yellow marabou with yellow or pearl crystal flash.
body...Yellow ice chennille or rouph dubbing.
Hackle..long hackle palmered over body, yellow for yellow body.

I mean dubbing that is scruffy, messy looking such as you would get in Seal, Woltens SLF, Long hairs ear with the guard hairs, often has a combination of short stuff and longer fibers so when you put it on...(Normally in a dubbing loop or split thread) it makes a very hairy body.
