Clam or Frabill 1 man hut. Any pro's or con's? Both cost about the same. Both seem about the same.

I've got the Frabill ultralight. I bought it last year and only used it once but it worked out fine for me. It's easy to assemble and not too heavy. I like the black fabric instead of the blue.

I think there pretty even as far as quality, the sliding seats are nice in the clams. If you go with the flip over design you can't go wrong with any of them. The eskimos and otters are a little nicer but cost more.

Frabill. Good quality. Black armor cant hurt, absorbs heat.

Frabill ultralite, its quick to setup, light weight, and decent quality.:)

Both are great shelters, but the one thing I didn't like about the Clam was that the bars for the sliding seat took up too much sled storage space. I also perfered the black fabric over the blue and like the extra windows that the Frabills had. The Otters are nice too, but a little pricey as already mentioned.

I think as long as you go with the flip over style you can"t go wrong, they all have different bells and whistles, mobility is the key to catching more fish. If it"s easy to move you will!

one vote for clam. the new ice armor canvas material feels so much better than frabil's. throw in a padded swivel style boat seat and you can sit all day . windows front and back now and side vent to keep from passing out. did i mention the seat also slides forward and back too. i sat in both and it was clam hands down.

My thought is the seats (in either make) add quite a bit of weight. When pulling by hand it matters. I am opting to leave the heavy, and cumbersome seats out of my XLTwin this year and use some lightweight folding chairs (like the HT enterprises sports chair). With this chair, it fits in the recessed part of the molding (opposite side of the "skis"). That way, you can access what is in the sled, while keeping your feet off the ice. Also, more fishing room out in front of you.

Frabill Ultralite weighs in at 32lbs unloaded. It makes a big difference when your pulling by hand!!! I have one and it works great for me on LSC. Lots of walking around on the bay trying to locate the schools left me no choice then to go as light as possible. If I had a atv I'd go for the otter 2-man flip...

The Shappell Rover is also a great choice for a one man flip over portable. There's a bench seat that runs the full width of the shanty so it acts as a good place to set small items on while your tying lures and baiting with waxies and stuff. The canvas is heavier I think then some of the other ones and it's black with tinted ion glass windows on both sides. The only drawback that I have found with any of the one man flips is if you get on the fish, and the day has some wind blowing, you get settled in, ice your self down to keep the wind out and there's no way to get out without flipping open the whole shanty. I'm planning to have a canvas shop sew in a zipper on the front face of my portable so that I can get out of it without flipping the top open. Good luck with your choice, there all good units just depends what your budget allows you to do. Selfridge Bait and Tackel has them on display and I think the new ones are better built then the old ones (Like mine)
