Mon-o-man I have the LSC itch! Last year some of the gang here used decoy's to bring in the perch on the slow days. (Walleye Mike… wasn’t it you that was on MOOD show and you were using a decoy? That was a great show!) Well, I picked up a large green pike decoy last year (the only one left)and was wondering what colors and sizes you guy's recommend having in your arsenal. I think my green one is 5" and i had pretty good success with it last year.

On a side note...My second son (Tanner) is scheduled to join the MS.com gang via C-section on Tuesday so it may not be until Wednesday before I can get out on the ice. ;)

Thanks in advance everyone!

Tuesday or Wed eh? Where are you fishing? I used a decoy toward the end of the season last year, and had good sucess. I plan on picking up a couple more this year (last years was an $8 bass pro production). I have heard that red and white, and hunter orange are the way to go. I plan on getting a 5" perch w/ hunter orange belly, and a large red/white one for the toothy critters.

Treeman from this site was the one demonstrating decoying LSC perch on that MOOD show. He carves his own decoys and has quite a collection in his house. Besides red & white and blaze orange, Icefishinnut (who also carves perch decoys) said chartruse is a hot color too. Most decoys they use to attract perch are around 6-7" and have the shape of a perch or sucker.

i dont use a decoy, but i do use a mudder/attractor out there when theyre not moving much and it works really well to draw them in

basically its a 4oz lead weight on a line with 4 or 5 large silver Colorado spinner blades on it spaced about 4" apart

If I don't have a small perch for a decoy, I use my wooden one which is white with black stripes.

Last year I used a large Daredevle, Red & White, on a length of parachute cord. Hooks removed, when you jerk it up and down it wiggles and flashes all over the place. Unfortunately it will also tangle your fishing lines if you're not careful. I can also use it as a mudder. Let it hit the bottom and bounce it up and down to stir up the bottom.

Last year I was in the shallow bay next to the Clinton River and I attracted three Largemouth in February.

A large spoon also gives vibration in the water. does it help??? but at times the fish come a running. Fish can see red from like 20 foot or down to 20 foot . I think that is why the old pike spoon was so sucessfull red/white. pike are day time sight feeders so are perch. Good luck

If it's perch you're after, here's a couple I like........

http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/photopost/data/529/2931DECOYS-med.JPG

The bottom one produces the best. It was solid orange, and didn't produce that well. So I painted the main body white, and it works magic on perch now.
BTW, treeman gave me that one, the top one I bought at Bluewater Bait.
5 inchers seem to be the perfect size. Anything bigger, even a 6 incher, seems to spook perch. If it's Pike or other large fish you're after, by all means......Go bigger.
