Just state the ice conditions in your area. No opinions need whether its safe or not. Just state the facts.

Small pond frozen over for the last few days a Square Lake/ I-75.
Also noticed a few canals in the Saint Clair Shores area were frozen over, but I would assume only an inch or so.

2-3 inches out of mitchells as of yesterday. Wont be long.
I like what Walleye Mike said "just the facts". ;)
The difference between "frozen over" or "has ice" and stating something like "1 or 2 inches thick" are big differences. I know some of us are reporting on drive bys, so we'll take what we can get, but it would be nice if ......
I was also driving around shopping yesterday in the holiday rush and saw ice everywhere I went. The only thinkness I could see was the runoffs between M-59. Since the water has gone down, the ice was calapsing and was viewable at just over an inch thick. soon! :corkysm55

Found my first drill hole for the season out at metro today the guy must have been out there yesterday. Not far off shore only about 5-6 foot. Ice looked to be about 1-2 inches. By the end of the day a lot less in thickness and area.

Saw a few guys fishing off the docks at 11 Mile. The marina there has skim ice throughout, to fish it you'll need to open a hole off the dock with your spud.
The marina's between 9 & 10 Mile have skim ice/open water/skim ice/open water down the length of their canals.
The lake itself still had OPEN WATER in the entire area, and the water was dirty.

Anchor bay was iced over as far as I could see this morning from the back of the house. I will try to test thickness this weekend. Wouldn't be surprised to see a few Brave "foolish" souls walking around Sat.

As of this morning. Oxbow lake on 59, and Kent Lake near 96 has some skim but both are mostly open water.

I was at the Selfridge Launch today at 4:30 pm two big guys on the ice about 30" out from the ramp told me the ice was 1" to1-1/2" lots of wet spots on the ice. I drove to New Baltimore lot of open water in front of the park.
watched kids at the end of rudisale Str. breaking through the ice in about 1' of water they were having fun and were soaked to the waist. I bet they got the devil when they got home  we should have some safe ice by Monday. think cold front.

Ice conditions at Metro Beach Boat Basin were bleak. Three quarters of an inch at best with some open water on both sides of the island. Ice off Gino’s and the Metro Jet Ski Ramp for about 100 yards. Ice off Crocker a few 100 yards, all ice looked bumpy. No safe ice yet. With the cold coming in it wont be long.
Fish on.

12/19/04 @ 4ish p.m. after another Lions loss. :bash:
This is looking out from the end of my street to Fairhaven Point. Ice is firming up but not near safe yet. Open pockets of water and broken ice from the high winds that is now starting to piece itself together. Should have safe 1st ice by Christmas weekend folks!!! Virginia! There is a Santa Claus!!!

Watch the Marinas! the safe ice you were on can get slushy. With the wind today blowing so hard south east the water drained in alot of the marinas. The wind died and the water surge made all the shore, around the walls ect unsafe. the center is still good. USE YOUR SPUD>

Hey Ed,
We had the same at Bouvier Bridge, after we split up. Chopped a hole and got a geiser, nice because you didn't have to clear the holes, but like you said, after a while, the ice got soft with the warmer water on top of it. Ice was 2 - 2 1/2" or so. Lots of water on top between the docks.
Which one of those did you like best?? If this weather holds for a while, Ginos might harden up too...if only the wind lets up. Watching the steam come off the open water was cool.
Thanks again!!

Checked the ice out at these 3 places this afternoon. Spudded a few holes in each location. 1-2 inches. Ice is soft around seawalls and ramps with some water on top of the ice. I walked out 50 yards at the day sail ramp at Metro Beach on 2 inches then it went to 1 inch at the wave breakline. There were 2 shantys in the marina at SANG and 1 bucket fisherman on the canal North of the DNR launch there. Metro Beach also had dock fisherman with no one on the ice. No one on the ice at Harley either. Hope this helps!

Ice at the ramp is soft spud goes right through, However you can walk off the dock onto the ice it is 4-5 inches of good ice but soft near the seawall. Out into the canal it is only 2-2 1/2 tops and some other soft spots.
I would recomend another couple days before walking the canal but watch out for thin ice as there is alot of gas pockets in the canal

I fished the canals leading into Compass Point in Fairhaven last night. The ice around the docks had a slushy top layer, once you get away from the docks there was 3-4 inches of good solid ice. The ice on the lake in front of Compass Point was anywhere from 1-2 inches, but not all of it was safe ice.

Stopped by Miller marina last night after work. Still open water on the lake in front of the Coast Guard station. Marina's have ice. Saw one spot where somebody had fished along the docks.

I know most guys who read this post are looking for reports on LSC, but this is for the Detroit River area, specifically Downriver.
They are fishing in some of the marinas in the area specifically Lake Erie Metro and the marina behind the Wyadotte hospital. Stopped at both of the really good bait shops in the area and no reports of any fish, mostly dinks.
The canals leading out to Airport Bay are UNSAFE!! Went to check them yesterday morning and proceded to almost fall in when I stepped on what I thought was a rock with snow on it. Not a rock, water. Luckily only soaked my right leg up to the knee. While I didn't find any good ice, on a good note, I found out that my heartrate can actually exceed a million beats per minute. :D Drove over to Hickory Island and checked the ice on the Bay itself, it also is UNSAFE. Checked that with a spud this time and the spud went through on the first whack. Will keep a very close eye on the Bay and will ost when the ice is safe.
Keep Safe Everyone.

Fished in the lake at seflridge 12-27. There were around 20 some guys also fishing in the lake from 200 to 300 yards off shore. You need to use a spud!! I found several areas where it took only one light hit to go through. the ice we fished on was about 4" but there is a lot of 1" ice mixed in! The lake looked frozen as far as you could see.
