Hey Guys...
Here's my story for the year....I had been scouting a piece of State Land in New Haven since July. I had hunted there for a few years, but this year I got serious. I had a game camera up for 3 months, cut shooting lanes, used food scents for months before the Oct. opener. I hung my stand Sept.1, and continued scouting and preparing for the opener. I saw a few other guys in the woods, and found some bait piles, noone within 300-400 yds of me. I baited for the first week of the season. The begining of the second week I went to my stand and found that someone had actually taken a $h!+ on my baitpile, yes that's right, someone actually crapped all over my carrots(no-it wasn't a dog-dogs don't leave dirty handkerchiefs behind). Needless to say I was very angry. Was it an anti?, was it a hunter that was mad that I had a great spot? I continued to hunt the rest of bow season seeing only two does and a lot of other hunters walking cluelessly around the woods (at dusk, on cell phones, stalk hunting below me, etc.) I hunted in the U.P. during rifle season and was successful-taken a large bodied fork. With the new snow on the ground yesterday, I decided to go back to New Haven to do some evening muzzloading. The woods were beutiful with the snow in the trees!...As I got to my tree(which I hadn't been at since Nov 13th) I found that someone had stolen my climbing stick and my tree stand. They had to cut two different cables and locks to get this stand down. I'm out over $150. I've only been hunting for 5 years and have enjoyed every minute of my time in the woods, and met some great people...but I have to wonder.....What kinds of people are out there with us?
Thanks for listening to me vent!!!
Mark

I have run into some real scumbags at Weitzel, but they weren't hunters. Kids hanging out by Coon Creek drinking beer and throwing the empties into the creek. Putzes dumping trash at the end of 27 mile. Morons running their 4 wheelers through the fields while people were trying to hunt them. Etc.etc. It all goes with having state land so close to the big city I guess, but I sure don't like it. On the brighter side, the vast majority of people I have met there were great people, but somehow the scum always sticks out in my mind.

I havent hunted yet, but i know these kind of people are out there, just recently someone shot and killed two people over a tree stand fight. Things just arent the way they should be these days.

There certainly are a lot of scumbags in those woods. The sad thing is that they are only going to increase. The good news is although it seems they are further and fewer in between some of us good guys are still out there. ;)
