Well, I'm finally going to break down and buy myself a shanty, I was hoping that everyone could give me some advice on wich on to buy, or not to buy, and some of the things you like or dislike about them.

i had a fishtrap voyager and switched to a otter II medium cabin. the poles are square instead of round which i think makes it more sturdy and less noise in high winds. also the sled is a thicker plastic and i got the optional runners which are the same uhmw plastic as hi-fax snowmobile runners. I think the thing i that really caught my eye was the padded bench seat. i find it alot more comfortable. also the hitch is sturdier. one setback is the price. they are more money but i got an end of season deal and have about 480.00 into it.

It's hard to beat the otter sled products, the newer fishtraps are not made as well as the older ones, lighter plastic ect. JMO

I bought a otter med. last year it is the best shanty that I have ever seen.

I bought mine from franks 2 years ago it was about $700 I think but it tows so nice and the bench seat is very comfy it sets up fast and you can move often if you need to.

another vote for a fishtrap pro or scout either one both have padded seats now and a new ice armor style canvas. both have windows front and back and vents on each side for fresh air. the pro also sports the swivel style seat i like that you can slide the seat back and put your feet in the sled if you want. and at 199 for a scout and under 50 lbs its a heck of a deal.

Take a walk through Gander mountian. they have a flip type made by them that looks real good. They are very affordable and look well made.

I have the fish trap guide and the scout. I've done a lot of fishing in the scout and it's great for one man fishing trips where you want to cover a lot of ground. It's very light, build well and easy to pull around while walking. I sat in a few different brands and looked them over pretty thoroughly before deciding to go with the fish trap series.

I have the Otter Med., like others have said, quality just seems a lot better. I have to admit though,,, they could run a "sale" on them, sometime or another.

Keep in mind the seat, and the vehicle you'll be putting the shanty in, make sure everything will fit. I opted for no seat,, I just set my stool or bucket in there.

My first was a Fish Trap years ago. I liked it enough to get another, my $$$ went to the "Fish Trap Pro". Put the runners (uhmw) on the bottom, great protection of the tub. Works extremely well for me, I'm a big dude too, perfect for the one-man assault ! ;)

I like my Fish Trap Pro.

I'm a big guy with a bad back so I needed something I could load and unload myself, light enough to walk out with and big enough inside so my head doesn't rub on the top. The new ones have nicer features than the one I bought. Hard to beat it if you walk out. If you are riding out I'd buy something a little bigger.

I've had my Otter med. shanty with the bench seat four years now and I couldn't be happier,.
Yes they are alittle pricey but worth it , give them a good look.
