I recently purchased a Mr. Heater heater/cooker for my shanty and was wanting to hook it up to a #20 tank. My question is that in the instructions it says not to use with any tank over 75 ci. Now with the hoses that you but to run off a bulk tank come a regulator, so does this really matter? My thinking is that it doesn't matter but can someone please chime in and help me. Thanks.

I have always hooked up hoses and used 10 or 20 pound cylinders.I have done this on other models of Mr. Heater products but I guess I never read the instructions either.

I noticed that the hose adapter has no regulator on it. Is this the one you guys use? Thanks all for the info.

nope no regulator just a hose that attaches to the tank and heater. Your going to love it.
Fishingjoe. Now that you will be filling up your propaine tank in the winter, just a reminder after filling it in the cold from a cold storage tank, don't bring the tank indoors where the newly filled propaine tank will get warm. The gas will expand and the relief valve built into the tank will allow gas to excape. I know its common knowledge but worth mentioning. I recall these guys (can't tell there names  ) who unloaded there ice fishing stuff inside a hotel went to a bar and with luck on there side didn't blow the whole place up :bash:

Thats right the hose has no regulator. The unit performed a little differently, maybe a little noisier at a low setting, but was fine. This was used mostly in my deer blind. One time when the wife was hunting she left the hose get to close to the heater and it started the hose on fire. Luckily she got it out before the hose got damaged to far. Here's a tip. Don't leave it in the blind in the off season. Went to get the heater this year and found that varmints had ate right through the stinking hose! :yikes:

Went to get the heater this year and found that varmints had ate right through the stinking hose! :yikes:The unit has an internal regulator, none on the hose is required. I have seen guy's use one, just like the hose/regulator set up on a LP gas grill. It will work, regulates the pressure in the hose to a much lower pressure. To remedy the vermin problem we ran 1/4" soft copper lines from the tanks to the heaters in the blinds. :)

No regulator, just the hose. And it works GREAT! I bought a Black Cat this year and it SUCKS! I really, really wish I'd have bought a heater / cooker instead!

Is the 18000 the one with the fan? ...and don't worry fishinjoe, you're not gettin' soft... The Black Cat just doesn't put out the heat. I used to have one of these

and it put out triple the heat of a black cat...

I have one of those as well, it fits better in my box/bucket for short trips than the heater/cooker. I went looking for one to take up deer hunting as a back up and was told you cant buy them anymore, the new ones of that style have the thermal couple and safety shut offs. What you used to get for under $15.00 now costs almost $30!, and I've seen them even higher! I also have the sunburst/sunflower head that screws right onto a 20 lb'er

Do you need a special regulator to use gas from Uranus?
How do you hook the hose up?
:yikes:
Damn, bad picture in my head, forget that one I don't want to know what it looks like!

If anyone attempts to mess around with this dangerous gas , be carefull and make sure it dosent have any form of liquid mixed in with the gas :dizzy: I have ran into some Uranus gas that could be fatal. Although It is normally abundant inside a closed heated shanty , If used to often it will turn you large 4 man shanty into a one man shanty. Do your part and save the ozone, Just say no to Uranus gas.

Ed,
You are correct that sometimes liquid does accompany the gas from uranus, However it should be noted that this will also occur sometimes with a rather large chunk of solid fuel as well as the gas from uranus.
Everyone should be made aware that if you experiance large chunks of solid fuel accompinied with high amounts of gas from uranus you should be in a well ventilated area and should never be indoors. Failing to head this warning could be hazardous your health and could result in death, not only to yourself but others around you.
Please be safe while using your appliances powered by gas from uranus.
