I have an addiction but it is not nicotine or alchohol though I dabble in both. My addiction runs deeper into the soul it is one that makes me twitch at the first time I can see my breath in the late summer nights and then wake up early to run the setter when no man is out in the field. But I am out there with pheasant dreams on the mind. It is the feeling of the first time you are in the treestand and long for more time as the sun goes down on october 1st. I feel almost upset when the opener comes as i know i will soon be wishing it was not over as the sun goes down again in the early winter. I think about deer camp on a daily basis although it only lasts a few days it is some of the best few days out of the year regardless of what I bring home in the bed of my truck. This is an addiction that makes me stand in 4 feet of water about cold enough to freeze for hours waiting for the first glimpse of mallards to decend out of the foggy sky. It is an addiction that has caused more than its share of arguments with the wife as I say "its the opener", "its only a few weeks long", "its the last day", "one more time" and so on. If I only had a dollar everytime I said one of those lines. It is an addiction that bridges the old timers with the grandkids as the tradition and thus the addiction is passed on. It is hoping to see the birddog get one more point before heading to the place bird dogs go after their time here is over. It is hearing the first gobble on a crisp spring morning and hoping that he will come in on a string. This is the addicton that I have and it is called hunting and being one with nature. Can you remember the last sunrise you witnessed? If you are on this board it probably wasn't long ago.............As it gets towards the end of the seasons I am forced to make a decision this weekend. Do I hunt pheasant, deer, goose, rabbit? addictions are bitch aren't they?

Happy Huntin boys

wow... every word of that is so true...besides the wife yelling at me im only 18 and this has been my 10th season hunting(im from ohio i didnt have to wait till im 12). all my friends always tell me i "disappear" during hunting season which most of the time i am in my tree, the marsh or the feild. i also like the part about the decision making while the hunting season winds down i dont know what to hunt, right now it is deer but duck does open back up the 18th of december for a few weeks and it is hard for me to say no to duck hunting. hunting has been my passion for over half of my life and i cant wait for thw seasons to come, the deer camp tips to the U.p., duck opener in the U.P. the many sunrises and sunsets to come and till i finish school in two years with my wildlife management degree and then when im not hunting im still out in the feild even at work........what a bueatiful thing.

You never know which one will be your last so lets try and enjoy each and every one we get to. God willing there will be plenty more for each of us. You gotta love it though I think we are in the greatest state in the country.

Decisions, decisions....................
When the fall hunting season comes, the fall fishing gets good
When Spring fishing comes so does Turkey hunting, mushroom hunting & so on
Kind of like getting up in the morning & saying, "what do I feel like doing today" thing.
Of course when you are thinking this, and you have a dog look at you, well I guess I can ignore the wife but I can't ignore the dog

I think this weekend will consist of, waking up, going out with the muzzle loader for a couple hours, if not many shots or hunters are seen, probably go in a grab some dogs and go out for a while.
Come back in grab the wife & head down to Cabela's & she can get me something for X-mas
Then on the way back I'll take her out to her favorite resturant

This time of year I go through my hunting gear and find that the 5-10 boxes of 6's, 7 1/2's, 8's, #2,#4, and BBB steel all in one big pile near my hunting gear :dizzy: Since the ink rubs off of the winchester shells you can't tell what your using. At the Pheasant outing this weekend my buddy Randy made a good call he said, "If someone asked me what size shells I was using I'd tell them, The Red ones!"

This fall I shared alot of sunrises and sunsets in the field, I saw the northern lights in a marsh at 4am with Steve Arend, sunrise on Lake michigan with Sixshooter, sat in the duck marsh with Sprig, Hawkdog, and Omega58. Pretty good company in the outdoors I'd say, hate to see the season go. On to ice fishing, steelheading and turkey hunting ;)

The amount of time in the field is proportional to the amount you get bitched at by your wife, and my ears are still ringin'! :dizzy:

RING RING RING< isn't that the truth but I guess if my wife spent every waking hour talking about preparing and going shopping I would bitch too  after it is all said and done however when I am cranky and in a bad mood, there has been more than one occasion that she has said "just go hunting so I can stand you when you get back" September to january just flies by anymore and it always seems to get faster every year. I will go for deer saturday and maybe some pheasants too but if the geese are still hitting our field maybe I'll do that instead or maybe jump some brushpiles or............whatever I do it will be great as I spend time in gods country!

DRWink, sounds like you got it all figured out with the Cabelas trip and all but what do you do after dinner ;) Get some good luck going for sunday and back at it again huh

Slept in for the first time since September on Sunday, felt great, until I remembered that I missed the last day of duck season. But I guess that hurt you too didn't it Adam!
