i noticed last year that i caught more hogs during the middle of the season rather then late ice. i was just wondering if it was by chance, or did the weather have any thing to do with it. plus did any one else experience the same. THE ONE THING I DO KNOW IS MY SHANTY IS GETTING LONELY.come on ice!!!!!!

I did good all year. from anchor bay to 9 mile. the size was great. There were days I had to move and look for bigger fish. (move includes pack up the truck and move also) I'd be happy with little fish and ice by Jan 1st

Well one thing is for sure...we didn't get much of a last ice period!!! seemed Like BAAM before you knew it it was gone!!! Hopefully this year will have the same class of perch as we encountered last year!! Also hopefully we will have a descent ice thickness so Ed can break in that new machine! ;)

Pretty much stayed on them until the BIG BLOW. Followed the schools from Anchor Bay to the 9 mile area, they stayed around Gino's and 9 mile for a while. If it wasn't for the Big Blow ice would have lasted a little longer.

I know that on Airport Bay (Mouth of Det River where it meets Erie) I saw BIG perch all year. Had a couple of absolute MONSTERS come rushing in on my jig but they would stop just short and study the jig for a wile and then swim off. When I say big I mean big, a couple of times I went out and caught 30+ fish with almost half of them beign 12" or bigger and the ones that would swim away made those guys look like guppies.

Last year when we had this happen we switched to a plain hook with minnow. It seemed to do the trick.

:yeahthat: :yeahthat: I am a huge advocate of this method. I outfished my friend who only uses teardrops at least 5/1.

And when all else fails, USE THE SPEAR!

I got a 14-15" last year this way.

yea that is good, a little #6 true turn hook small sinker and tiny slip bobber. I like the slip bobber while inside the shanty. that way when I get busy on the jigging rod and a perch hits the minnow it allows me to pull it in when I have time.

I live near Saginaw Bay, but would like to try LSC this winter. Is there any maps available that show access points to the lake. Thanks.

Yep Ed the slips do the trick on soft and hard water, thanks for showing the technique
