Has anyone had any success raising grubs or collecting them from hornets/wasp nests?
Every hornet nest I've broken open never has any viable grubs in them. Do hornets not overwinter as grubs?
My father has tried for several years to raise mousies for fishing with varying success. Up north we have a cabin next to a farm. My dad takes a 5 gal bucket and fills 3/4 full with manure in the summer. Then everytime we go up north in the summer he adds water to the bucket to keep the manure moist. Come fall we top the bucket off with water and then churn the manure - let it settle for a minute and you can see some of the grubs making their way to the surface. When this method works, however, the mousies seem very small.
Everytime we try and tweak the set up,however, something will go wrong. Either the manure gets too dry, or rain causes the bucket to overflow, or perhaps the best one yet is when the dogs went to the freshly filled bucket and began drinking the water:tdo12: Just nasty
