Just picked up a Black Diamond XR from wallmart. The price was what convinced me, $170.00 for a mossy oak break-up stock and blued barrel. Bought some hornady sst 300 gr sabots, this coupled with a 100 gr of pyrodex pellets and I was shooting three inches above bullseye at 50 yds with no sight adjustment. Hows that for of the box accuracy. I now have a gun that will be good out to 150 yds. Clean-up was not that bad either.

I bought one last yr and I love it. Mine had unusual circumstances though. The soon to be wife and I were out looking at the church before our wedding, and she was inside with the preacher. I bought mine off a action auction on the radio. The best part was the preacher stuck his head out of the church to see if I still had the high bid. then after I got it he took me inside to show me his bear huntin pics.

I loved my black diamond for accuracy and lightness. My biggest complaint was that with a scope on it was very difficult to remove the breech plug just due to space constraints.
I agree that it is a pain to pull the breech plug with a scope on it. I also found that at 50yrds it shoots very good with the triple7 pellets but at a 100 it was not as consistant as I would have liked. I found that it works best with the 120gr. of pyrodex powder and a 240gr sabot.

If I were to mount a scope, I would use some quick release scope mounts. This would aid in cleaning and breech plug removal. The ones that leupold makes seem like they would be perfect.
I have a Leupold on my Black Diamond and if I take the scope off I still have to sight it in. You will never put the scope back on exactly the same way it has come off. And if you invest in a Leopold or some other nice scope do yourself a favor and get one of the scope wraps. That gun has just killed the finish on my scope.

I am not refering to the leupold scope, only their quick release mounts which are supposed to retain accuracy. It seems as though they use a couple of quick release dowel pins to maintain location.
I have the quick release and still would not take off the scope and remount without sighting the gun in again. But then again I would never take the scope off from any gun and remount it wouthout sighting it in whether its a quick release or not. Personal preference I guess.

Im shooting the same gun with the quick release mounts and have had no issues with the zeroing. It has been right on after each use and cleaning. Im getting 2 inch groups at 100 yards using 245gr aero tip powerbelts. With 2 pellets. Completely happy with this weapon.

I would definately check to see if they work as claimed by firing a few test shots after removing and reinstalling.

I went with triple seven 90 gr with the new shockwave and the results were awesome just about 1.3/4 high at 105 yards
Only thing new shockswaves seem to go down super tight in my black diamond. Anyone else notice this ??.......M ;)

I use the QR rings on my Black Diamond XR also, I've never had any prob. with the zero. I was worried about it when I first got them so I tested it at the range one day. I shot a round and took the scope off, then put it back on after i took a moment to wipe off the blast residue. I did this five times, some times with 2 shots sometimes with 1, at the end I went down range and found a one hole group. It was only at 25 yards, but I was just goofing around waiting for a spot at the 50 to open up. I then took it home and took the scope off, cleaned it well, and put it away for a few months, back at the range in the fall it was still zeroed right where I left it. The rings cost more than the scope in them, but it was worth every penny.

Happy to announce the black diamond is no longer a virgin. Shot what I thought was a big doe. Turned out to be a spike with one antler missing. This thing blew a hole right through the spine and dropped like a rock. Cleaned up all the hunting gear that has been monopolizing the garage, cleaned and lubed the black diamond and packed everything away until next year. What a season. Passed on several sixes and a small racked eight earlier in the season. Now I settle for a unicorn. Oh well, meat in the freezer. Small game and ice fishing will now take up my time.
