Hey Guys -

Wondering what your favorite tip up is.

I personally don't like the round ones that are out there - although they do a good job of keeping the hole from freezing up.

I really like the Beaverdam - Arctic Fisherman tip ups. I've had three of them now for about 4 years and have had no problems with them what so ever.

Wondering if anyone else has used the beaverdam's and what they think of them.

P.S. > When are we gonna get some Ice?

My fishing brethren and I have come to like the units created by "Fish Brothers Tackle" out of Tustin, Michigan. Easy to store, easy to transport, and pretty effective. Here's their website: http://www.fishbrothers.net/

I have a bunch of high tech tip-ups, but my favorite would still have to be the cheap wooden $3 dollar tip-ups you can pickup in any tackle shop.

There's just something about the way they look on the ice that reminds me of all the good times I had as a kid, ice fishing with my Dad.

I like the HT Fisherman tip-ups. They are the basic 3 crossed stick design with the reel under water. But they are made of plastic that is pretty darn tough. Nice adjustable tension on the reel and you cna get them at Wal-Mart and just about anywhere for like $5. Great deal.

I like the polar type. I was thinking about trying a wind tip up, has anyone used one?

I've used them, very effective in the right conditions. Only thing I really don't like about em is the fact of the reel being out of the water. If it's a super cold day the damn reel freezes up on you. Plus if it's really windy, it's almost impossible to get the thing set right. That being said, if the conditions are right they are an awesome weapon to have in the bucket. :)

I've tried every tip-up out there and have found that the "All Season Tip-up" is by far the best for me. Its basicly a rod holder that you clamp to a bucket and has a trip wire that your line lays across and a bubble that goes up when tripped. Nice because you fight the fish from a rod instead of hand over hand. The only reason you have to take off your gloves is to bait your hook. As far as the line freezing in the hole, it happens but the fish don't seem to mind. The strike breaks it free. I know that I catch just as many fish with it as the boys with regular tip-ups, plus I don't have to wind the line back up on the spool when I'm finished. Just release (the fish), rebait, and reset. Bam. Sad thing is I don't thing that Hillybilly Tackel out of Wolverine, MI is making them any more. Wrong marketing I guess. There is a phone number on it though. Its 231-525-6771.

I use both the round tip ups and polars and the round ones are great as long as there is not alot of water on the ice. When there is I switch back to my good ol polar tip up.
