Conflicts rise as more hunting land winds up in private hands
The dream of owning land has changed the hunting landscape in Wisconsin over the last couple of decades, putting more pressure on public lands as fewer landowners allow other hunters to use their property.
As more "No Trespassing" signs go up on private land, more hunters turn to land owned by the government or by businesses such as paper companies that receive a tax break for allowing public access. Pleoger said with added pressure on public land, "a lot of people get pushed to the edges," and sometimes they spill out onto private land.
