I have used the Tazor, but somewhere in this forum I read, I think by Scotty Hoover, that others use a camera flash. How is that done, and where can you buy something like that? I know absolutley nothing about cameras so I figgered I'd ask. Thx

Almost anywhere that you can buy a decent camera, will also sell electronic flash units. Mine takes 4 AA batteries, and will flash many times on that. the nice theing is that they flash so brightly, that is supercharges the jigs.
You are probably looking at close to 100.00 to buy a new one, but there are alot of places around that might have used ones at a lower price. Look for a camera store in your area.

ebay ebay ebay look up manual flash and start hunting you want one with a test button to discharge without the camera, any flash will work and it only takes a flash to charge em up completely. i just got one for .99 cents plus 4 bucks shipping!! you can also buy em at gander mountain and such they will marked up aabout 250 percent to about 20 bucks or more. i got quite few links to auctions ending in the next few days that almost no one bids on. think about it who wants an old crappy flasher..... ah yes ICE FISHERMAN!!!

Another alternative is to buy one of those cheap disposable cameras with a flash and use it until the batteries go dead. Then take it apart and replace the batteries. Used disposable cameras can even be had for free just by asking at the places that do one hour photo.

They sell those "lure charger" lights at Dicks and Sports Authority, I just bought 2 a couple weeks ago and tried them out,, they work great. They were only like 5 bucks.

me and ozzgood put a little research into it and buying cheap manual camera flashes from ebay is the way to go, this year i'm going put a string on one to wear around my neck at night in the trap. I have had nights where fish showed a definite preference for the jigs with a VERY fresh glow on them. when the jigs lost there glow just a little bit they wouldn't hit as fast or as hard.

I think I bought the same one from there about 4 years ago for like $5. Mine is the same as the Luhr Jensen flash, without their name on it. I've pretty much seen the same thing on Ebay also.
It looks like this.

I am also intriqued by the purple UV version of the "Nuclear Flash", since it claims to be much brighter than a normal flash.

I see some manual "slave" flashes on EBAY, without the camera is there a trigger mechanism that makes it flash? Or is there a particular type I should watch for?
