I was on my way to a jobsite, heading north on US-31 just before 6:00 a.m. and saw a bobcat on the south side of Elk Rapids right at the water tower. It was standing on the northbound shoulder looking like it wanted to cross into the residencial area. At first I thought it might be a coyote on a road kill. It was definitely a bobcat, as I slowed and swerved to get it full into the headlights before it turned and bounded back into the weeds. The only thing I can figure is it was going to try and get a squirrel or bird at someone's feeder come first light.
The only other one that I ever saw was a few years ago crossing Co.Rd. 612 in Kalkaska County also early in the morning heading to a jobsite.

16 years old, deer hunting a cedar swamp, south of Ossineke & east of US 23
I was still hunting, there was a lot of blow downs & such. It hoped up on a log about 25 yards away. thought about shooting it but(didn't know the regs) when it jumped down the other side of the log, three deer got up between us & one was a buck & took that instead.

Heck there is a breeding pair where I hunt in mid-mi. We see them all the time. Strangest thing happened once, one rolled over on it's back and purred loudly under my stand to watch me for 10 minutes. It reminded me of the cheshire cat.
