As youknow, the salmon are in full spawn mode. The tributaries and rivers of Lake Michigan are full of four year old kings, heading home to procreate. This also brings them in contact with the haunts of big ornery fall smallmouth. THis weekend promises to be a beautiful one, with temps reaching the low 70s. After the cold snap, this will bring the fish shallower and they will be hungry. AM venturing up my favorite small river to tackle the bronze. Chances are, I will cross paths with a king or two in the process. I wonder how my 6'6" Med spinning tackle with 6 lb Trilene will handle an ornery 30 lb king......this might be an adventure.

The smallies are migrating, heading towards winter staging areas. NOW is the time to nail the biggest bass of the year. While I am primarily a LMB guy, the lure of fall smallies is too much to ignore.

I hope you have a good warranty on that rod. Actually, the line will probably give before the rod does, but you will have a tough time with that setup.

Well, I am not targetting salmon. I just figure I might get lucky(?) and hook one. I am actually after smallmouth, which I oughta be able to handle with my trusty Daiwa/Lews combos. I wonder if a king would hit a 1/16th jig and plastic combo?????????? LOL

I've caught salmon before on grubs while fishing for smallmouth in the fall. The trusty old bass fishing rods handle them just fine. As a matter of fact, I have caught quite a few on my bass fishing gear.

I hope the weather is this nice next weekend when I head over to lk erie for some toad yanking fun.

A bad day on the water is better than a good day at work:)
