Is there any practical value in Crow hunting other than target practice? I have eaten crow a few times (although not literally) but I dont hear of any eating or mounting them???

I enjoy crow hunting also; although I must admit it takes a back seat to other forms of hunting. I sure would like to know how this stupid "season" got started!:( Used to be you could shoot them most of the year.....not Sept 1 to Sept 30 and Feb1 to Feb 28. (or whatever it is now). I have used both the shotgun with the owl and crow decoys and the stalking with the .22 magnum; both are fun and a great way to beat the winter blues.
As for no value, are you kidding?! You guys have no imagination! Those feathers are great for tying flys (I have heard that the black gnat is a great pattern.....think of how many you can tie with just one crow!); they can be used to "dress up" muzzleloading supplies, like possibles bags, for buckskinners. I was also wondering if they could be used for fletching arrows made by traditional archers? I know that they usually use turkey feathers, but a crow is a rather large bird.
They can be great for training retrievers....take a lab crow hunting....in addition to learning retrieves, they will learn to sit still in the blind and not spook the "important" birds when waterfowl or dove season rolls around. The dead crows can also be used for yard training. Finally, after the dogs have had thier fun, bury the carcasses in the garden and let them be used as fertilizer.....Hey, I just thought of a great book; "101 things you can do with a dead crow"!:D :p

as far as practical value in crow hunting , i'm not sure if this is what you looking for but those crows have been known to get into turkey and pheasant eggs and eat them. so by crow hunting you might be helping out or upland game population also.i know you don't wanna hear this but i did eat bar-b-q crow down in tennesse and thoght i was eating turkey till i opened my eyes and seen the color of the meat.

I sure would like to know how this stupid "season" got started!
From what I hear it has something to do with Mexico.
The U.S. cut some sort of deal with them because they migrate heavily through Mexico and they help to clean up the diseased animals in the countryside. Disease................in Mexico?..............How could that be?...............
Again, this is only heresay.
I have been trying to call crows for a couple of years now out in the field with not much luck. But I step out side my front door in the city and I can bring in 20-30 of them suckers with no problem.
Them country crows and as dumb as them city boys.
Any ideas?

Hey guys, Ive got a question about the sept 1 thru 30 season goes. I dont have any private property to hunt on, so I go to local state land to hunt and they are posted " no shooting april thru september 15". Ive never been crow hunting before, does that mean Iam stuck waiting till sept 15?
