I have a 30.06 that has a Simmons scope on it. It has a range adjustment knob on it and I hate it. What I am taking about is a knob that has 100,200,300,etc... distances on it so it can be adjusted quickly for different ranges. It seems to turn way to easily and I worry it will and I won't notice until its too late. Does anyone know if I can remove this knob and put a standard one on it with a cap cover on it that won't move?
Thanks for any input.

On my Bushnell scope you can, the screw cap untightens then the yardage dail comes off wich is what turns the crosshairs, mine broke(screw) a few years ago and I called the company and they sent me a replacement but they sent me the wrong part wich just happend to cover the complete opening that the yardage ring left, I reorderd they sent the right part. My point is call Simmons they should be able to help you get the right cap for your scope, or with a little r&d on your own part you might be able to come up with a fix yourself

That is an adjustable objective and is common on high magnification scopes or rimfire scopes. The point of it is to focus the scope at certain ranges 100, 200, 300 etc. It's tough to design scopes to focus at every power at any given range so thats why they make many with the AO, Adjustable Objective. If it moves too easily, thats a quality issue that Simmons should take care of. For now, adjust it to the range or within a range your most likely to use the scope and use a little electrical tape or camo duct tape to secure the objective...won't look good but it should get you through the season. Then tell Simmons to fix it or replace it with a non AO scope.

SM,
Its not on the objective. Its like that on the elevation knob. The problem is when I slide it in a soft gun case for instance it moves a little. I like the knobs on my Leupold's with the protective covers. This knob is out in the open and I don't trust it.

Ahhh, you have target knobs! Yes, target knobs are made to be quickly adjustable and yours are probably too loose...again a quality control issue. These scopes are meant more for target practice and varmit hunting. Not very good on a field gun. You can still use the tape trick, or just make sure you know where they are suppsoed to be and keep checking them through out the hunt....what a pain! I'd get a new scope pronto though if it were me, at least for hunting.
You should bea ble to get standard knobs for it...may have to send it to Simmons for this though depending on the model. Doesn't do you much good for this season though!

Thanks all for the advise.
It sure is a pain. Every time I take it out I am wondering did it turn? I don't really want to put a new scope on it as it was my uncle's gun. He has passed away so I want to keep it as is. After season I will contact Simmons and see if they can help me get a "regular" knob for it.
