Hey all do any of you folks with poor vision opt for contacts while at camp? I want to wear my contacts but I'm affraid the saline will freeze over night. My glasses don't offer very good peripheral vision so I'm hesitant to use them.

Nothing like Ice cold saline solution after a night at Deer Camp, all the smoking and smoke from the wood burner, it feels great with the cold solution.

I have to take my glasses
I don't need them for the normal stuff,.. just for doing things close up and reading.
Getting older is a B!tch!!! :smile-mad

Contacts : no fogging up or distorted vision from the elements!!
I use daily disposables.
Put your contact case in your bedding with you so no frreezing issues if you're in a tent. I always have my glasses with me just in case I have a problem with my contacts for back-up.

Does saline freeze at the same temperature as water? I might throw them in the sleeping bag with me but I tend to toss and turn a lot so I'm not sure if they'll survive. I might just have to fill the container to the gills with saline. Glasses do stink in the cold weather. Add rain and it's instant misery.

Definitely go with contacts. One of the few times I've had an opportunity to see a buck my glasses fogged up so bad because I was so excited that I couldn't see a thing. by the time i got them clean the deer was gone
To my knowledge saline is a salt water solution so it shouldn't freeze unless its REALLY cold - cold enough that you wouldn't want to be sleeping outside.
I've always kept my rewetting drops on the top shelf of the fridge and have never had a problem with them freezing. Plus I really like the cold drops when my eyes are really strained - kind of rejuvenating.

I use daily disposables also !
I am sure there is going to be some optomitrist out there that is going to give me what fer, but I wear mine for a week without removing (and I know I am not the only one). I never have any issues, some people are different thought. Some people can not wear dispsables! I know glasses SUCK in the woods.

I have used glasses exclusively. I have considered switching to contacts to avoid the fogging problem. They really fog up bad if I am useing a face mask. Additionally, I have switched to a scope from open sights and find it nearly impossible to use a scope without removeing my glasses.

I wear contacts until I can't take it anymore (Between campfires, lack of sleep, not wearing them often and getting tired of poking myself in the eye at 5 am) I then switch to glasses with defogger on them which keeps them from fogging up too bad.

Saline and case in the sleeping bag with me. Put it down by my feet as i tend to toss around a lot,,, especially with all of the log sawing in the other bunks!!!:bash: Oh yeah, it does wake you up in the morning putting those cold buggers in your eyes,:yikes: but i would have it no other way. Good luck to all!!

I will have to go with contacts as well. . better with everything involved in hunting. . .and I wouldn't worry about it freezing, it never has on me. . just like others have said. . . a nice pick me up in the morning.
Definitely take along an extra pair or two with you. . they are hard to replace in the woods.

Contacts...can't stand to go for a walk in the woods with my glasses, let alone where them for hunting. For the guys that don't have a choice that's too bad, I know it happens but if you can go with the contacts they are definately the way to go.

The last couple times that I've camped in the winter I've never had a problem with my contact solution freezing even when the temp in the tent got down to near zero at night. If you still worried put the case and bottle of solution inside a ziplock bag and put it down by your feet in the sleeping bag.

Glasses at the moment. I use them around the camp. I have excellent low light visualization without correction so I hunt without them. Once I pick up movement I have the scope set for my vision without glasses. I don't need to see much when entering and exiting my stand so I leave them back at the camp.
Soon though I am going to opt for the lasik solution. I know 4 people who have had it done and all say it's unbelievable what you see once it has been done.

Contacts....depending on the weather, glasses can get real tough to see out of...as you already know I am sure...

-DennisTake your solution at night, put it in something like a hand warmer mitt and throw a hand warmer in it. It takes the edge off the cold in the morning.

I chose to switch to contacts this year for hunting and I would not have it any other way. No more fogging with the face mask on, full field of vision with no frames to block vision. Its great !!
I have had my saline out in below freezing temps, never has froze.
Whatever you do, DONT SLEEP WITH YOUR CONTACTS IN !!!! Maximum time spent with contacts in your eyes should be 12 hours. When you wear contacts, the lens keeps the area under your contact from getting rinsed and breathing. Extended wearing and sleeping with them could cause your cornea to swell and become irritated. My sister had a cyst grow on her eye from wearing contacts to long and my brother in law had to have a cornea transplant and almost lost his vision from improper contact use. :yikes: Keep them clean !!

my eye doctor wont give me contacts as the astigmatism's are bad in both eyes. I told him I only needed them 2 weeks a year but he still wont do it. I just got a new pair of glasses, smaller than my old pair. I can now see through my scope and binos with them on.
Here is what I had happen last year.
Hunting a treestand, snow and sleet comming down. I couldnt keep the water spots off my glasses or my scope. Right after dusk, I see a lone deer stick its head out into the clearing, thought i saw a nice set of horns. Acted Leary like a buck, was sniffing the ground where a couple does had been wouldnt step all the way into the clearing. Only had a front shoulder shot. Put my scope up, cant see anything, too much slop. Tried to clean them w/my shirt collar, only made it worse. I know damn well it was a decent buck.... wish i would have had a doe permit. Oh well, maybe this year.
Never could see as clearly with contacts as with glasses. Hated the glasses for hunting cause they'd fog up if you wore a face mask and would get wet if it rained or snowed. This year I saved up and had Lasik done in Windsor. Like Skyblaster I can say that it is fantastic! What a relief not to have to worry about glasses or contacts. Took a 4-point last week with the bow so I guess you can say my eyes passed the test. On Monday they have another test and I'm hoping for an A+. I can highly recommend Lasik.
Man, are you guys as excited about hunting as I am? Geez, you'd think I'm 8 years old instead of 48!
Good luck,
John

I'm able to focus a lot better with my glasses. The contacts are nice for the peripheral vision aspect, but other than that they irritate my eyes too much when I'm outside, especially when it's windy out. Not real crazy about my eyes watering when that deer is walking across in front of me.
