Who else has a pump rifle and how well does it shoot?
I have a BPR (Browning Pump Rifle) that I have had a love-hate relationship with since the day I bought it. Picked it over the Remington as it was head and shoulders nicer wood / bluing, etc. I chose it in .308 vs. .30/06 since the .308 is a 'short action' cartridge and I couldn't see why you would want a long action in a pump rifle. (The BPR is discontinued but looks just like a BAR. The BPR forend slides DOWN and under the receiver / magazine well during cycling, unlike a standard pump action which comes straight back.)
Loved the gun, I custom fit a Williams receiver peep sight underneath see-thru Weaver scope rings (talk about an engineering project . . . . :dizzy: ) Could never get it to shoot better than 2.5" - 3" groups, even with 'Premium' factory ammo of various bullet weights and styles.
In any case I finally got the reloading skills and time for a decent load which grouped 1.8" at 100 Meters. (4 of the 5 shots were in 1.25", 3 were on a level line 1" apart.) Given the gusty wind yesterday, my mediocre benchrest skills, and the limits of my scope/reticle; I would estimate that the true 5 shot capability of the rifle is near 1.25" at 100 yards.
Just curious if anyone else ever got decent factory pump accuracy or played with their pump gun reloads. Kaaaa - shuck! :D
