Hey Guys,

Looking for the date when woodcock season closes in the Northern Lower. I asked at two sports shops yesterday, and they hadnt a clue. :bash: I dont think its too far off now. :(

BTW, Linda G., nice article in the TC RE on woodcock hunting yesterday. It would have been even better if you had noted when the season closes.

look at the DNR site... ;)

Are there any left up here? I was out last Wednesday, and got zip, zero, nada...went to Ohio for a long weekend, found a few down there, may get back out this week up here, but with that cold front coming through this weekend, if there's any left, they won't stick around.

woodcock season closes in Mich on 11/8. i've found decent numbers in the northern l.p. on the last day of the season(when it was 11/15) and blowing snow. the longer i hunt them, the less likely i am to make any predictions about woodcock flights.

I flushed about 18 in about 8 hours of hunting in Gladwin Co over the weekend.

"where and when you find them" as my partner likes to say. The longer I hunt them, the less I seem to be able to predict about them. Maybe thats the charm about timber doodles after all is said and done. Thanks for the replys.

gregm - I'll start another thread re our "Sodak Expedition"

I got out on Saturday near TC and put up 4 in about an hour out of some thick berry cover. Sure was fun trying to knock them down in that wind on Saturday. There are still a few around but I don't think for long with this current northerly flow.

Good luck-

A friend called he just got back from Clare said the resident woodcock are still there this morning. I'm headed north Thursday they say snow friday? That sure makes the woodcock set tight.
