The top section of my fishing rod broke in the middle. I am thinking of fixing it by sliding both ends into a piece of bushing or tubing and gluing them together. Do you know where I can get such a small piece of tubing with 2 mm ID? How do you fix your broken fishing rods?

I don't know what the overall affect will be on the performance of the rod but I think you could probably find tubing of that diameter at a local hobby shop. There carry brass and aluminum tubing in pretty small diameters. If you find a piece the right size, maybe you could just epoxy it into place and see if it would work.

Good luck !

honestly just pinning it with an interneal plug isn't going to do it alone.... once it cracks it likes to splinter... so you have to put an oversleeve on it too.... then wrap it with something really strong, i've even used like spiderwire...... sorry i can't give you better news.....

I have fixed several rods through out the years....From what I have come up with on the break to the rod, I would sand down the top half ever so slightly just until it fits into the broken half. Then I would use this two part epoxy (that drys clear) then epoxy the two back together. This will leave a slight dead spot in the action....I have done repairs this way for years...

I use an epxoy made by Dura, I get it at Ace Hardware.

there once was a place on gratiot a block or two south of martin(11.5 mile)
on the west side . 2 or 3 doors north of gabriels bar.
i cant remember the name of the place
they fixed a steel head rod for me .
they did a good job of fixing it
i got stepped on about 2 feet from the tip
they put a dowel on the inside & wrapped the outside the same way you would put line guides.
they fix anything for sportsmen, guns ,bows ,rods , etc.

Are you sure that the two parts can be held by the epoxy without additional bracing? I dont think the top half can be sanded down to fit ino the lower half because both are hollow.

Rook - do a search on the web for "rod building" or "how to fix a rod" - something along those lines. I stumbled across a site a few months ago on this. Can't quite remember where, but I will post if I can find it. The basic premise was to take a piece of hollow graphite, maybe 2 inches or so long, where the hollow inside was just large enough to insert the main section of the rod into one end, and the broken tip in the other. I believe that he then used some type of glue (maybe the stuff rod builders use to cover the threads after they tie on guides?) to hold the sleeve in place.

The basic premise was that using the same type of material (graphite sleeve for a graphite rod, fiberglass sleeve for a fiberglass rod, etc.) would limit the more of the dead spot and retain more of the original action of the rod than other methods. I hope this helps, and I'll try to post a link to the site if I can find it. Good luck...

It really depends on where the break occured......I have a couple of rods I have
fixed this way......One was the tip was broken about 4 inches down( slamed in a door) The other was about 6-7 inches down from the tip.....The tips of the rods were rather slim.....so it wasn't a big deal. Each of the rods were about 1" shorter than they originally were.

I have a broken radio and I can use the antenna of the radio to fix the rod (the top section). If not, just as what you said - cut off the stud from the broken section and make it a shorter rod.
