Hello, I am from PA and the state currently has several proposed hunting legislative changes. They are as follows:

1. "3 Points on one side" rule for Buck Season (we currently have a spike rule)

2. Allowing Sunday Hunting in PA (we are not allowed to hunt on Sunday)

3. Allowing crossbows to be used in archery season for non-disabled hunters (crossbows can only be used by disabled hunters).

4. Maintaining Muzzleloader Season as Flintlock Only (Cap and ball cannot be used)

5. Lowering the minimum hunting age to 10 years old. (Currently at 12 years old)

I am not familiar with MI laws pertaining to the above and would like to find out if you have similar laws or legislative proposals. If so, what effects (both positive and negative) is it (or has it) caused in MI?

Thank you for the information. Safe hunting.

These so many points on a side rules are a bunch of horsesheet. Most shots by the time you get done counting if it is a four point or a six point the buck is gone. Does Pa allow hunting over bait? That would be the only way to get the deer to park long enough to count points. They are talking about doing this in Michigan also, but currently it is only for your second buck tag.

Hunting on Sunday should be allowed. The ban was an old blue law. A couple of counties in Michigan this have this on either private or public land, I don't recall which.

Why not cap and ball? Sounds good to me.

10 years old seems pretty young to me. Here it is 14 for firearms deer, and 12 for small game. I don't think kids who aren't big enough to drag a buck out ought to be hunting them.

So with your reasoning about kids hunting. Does that mean that some women should hunt just because the cant drag a deer out by themselves. There are a few states that allow kids to hunt as young as 9 yrs and they dont seem to be having any problems. the key is in hunters safety. As long as the kids educated in the matter I dont see a problem with it.

I forgot,

6. Baiting deer is also being reviewed (We are not currently allowed)

Thank you

Wishn: In theory you are right, and the key to saftey is judgement, but I have not yet met the 9 or 10 yr old that consistently displayed a level of judgement that I feel comfortable hunting near.

Kind of a mute point since no kids can hunt by themselves until they reach the age of 17 unless they are on land which they live.:D

I hunt in Pa. Bradford Couinty, and was not aware there was a spike rule. What is the spike rule in Pa.?

Youper, I agree with you on the age limit. I have a little cousin that I shot bow with this weekend, and I do not want him out in the woods at that age. Kids at that age shouldn't be out hunting, even with an adult. And for those of whom are going to say not all kids are like that, most of them are and how could you just allow a few kids at that age to hunt?

A buck must have one horn 3" or higher to shot.
