I have been recently introduced to the great sport of Steelhead Fishing in the Grand River in Grand Rapids. I just wish I had tried it 20 years ago because unfortunately my aging back can't take too much standing and casting for Steelhead (caught, photo and release) on my feet wading. When I was there this last weekend saw some small boats down by Interstate 131's bridge.
I have a great river fishing canoe on a trailer. Seats, motor and all. However does anyone know where to put in?
I realize you can't go up stream too far....but that is fine with me. I would enjoy casting for Steelhead with my back rested in my river boat.
Thanks in advance for the information to aging fisherman.

You can either put in at Johnson park and motor up, it is a nice little stroll without a goodsized motor up to the dam, otherwise you can put in at the eastside of the dam. If you put in at the eastside of the dam and want to go downstream there are a series of coffer dams that you will have to go down and I would not recomend doing so in a canoe.

Thanks for info Steeliefreak. I really appreciate it.
Question: If I put in at Park and start going upstream. Is there any good Steelhead spots in that section of the river? Or do you have to almost motor up river to 131 bridges? Can you catch Steelhead closer to boat launch or is that section too deep?
Have you ever fished for Smallmouth or Pike in that section of the river during summer?
Thanks

Thanks for info. I would love to learn how to catch those carp on average gear and tackle. I just don't target them. They sure look like fun though!!! Huge...what a fight they must be! I know the UK and Europeans love fishing for them. It is an art with them.
I just don't have the patience for it and don't really know how.
Thanks again
