"The boys were freaking out, and some of the kids fell in the water," she said. "But most kids were OK with it because the students were divided into two groups - those to collect bugs and those collecting water samples, so the ones in the bug group already knew what we were going to be doing."
Nearly 2,500 students tested the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the water, as part of the Stream Leaders program, now in its 12th year, coordinated by the Clinton River Watershed Council. The council's mission is to protect, enhance and celebrate the Clinton River, its watershed and Lake St. Clair. A watershed is another name for a river basin, or an area of land that drains into a common body of water.
