I had an interesting hunt this past weekend. I own 10 acres down in Monroe county and I try to hunt it when ever I can. It is surrounded by a couple of other 10 acre parcels and a 50 acre parcel behind me. It seems that the guy with the 50 behind me is always doing something on his property (its his property so I can't complain). The land is pretty open so what ever he does I can see and hear clearly. Well it seems his latest project is to move dirt from one area of his property to another by the way of front end loader and bulldozer. I get out there Saturday about 6:00 and see he is there working. He is close enough where I can actually see him. I thought about leaving but decide to stay hoping he would stop soon. Well, about 7:00 he was still there. While watching him put a scoop of dirt in his dump truck, something cought my attention out of the corner of my eye. I slowly turned and here came a doe and two fawns between me and my neighbor. Pretty soon here came another doe and two fawns. They were just of my property line walking towards the equipment. By this time the guy was off his loader walking around the dump truck. The six deer continued to walk down the line and pass about a hundred yards from the comotion never spooked and never flickered a tail. They continued to walk right through his property to the bean field next to us. They weren't close enough to get a shot but it was nice to see that all that comotion never bothered the deer. So now I know that next time I see him out there working, don't get discouraged it didn't seem to bother that group of deer. Maybe next time it will be the " Big One".

I use to hunt right behind a cement company. There was truck and front-end loaders running through there all the time. They would even wash their cement trucks 70 yards from me and I always would see deer walking back and forth between us. All the noise never bothered them.

Deer aren't usually to threated by things they can easily monitor with their ears. It's the same with cars, they will often move a short distance from the road for a passing car. Stop shut the car off and they are more wary because their ears are no longer telling them anything. I've noticed this while hunting around dirt bike trails also, they usually don't move to far off to let the bikes pass then carry on with their original course.

i have seen the same thing happen when i was at deer camp in the u.p.
logging skidders, trucks, saws, grinders, you name it and the deer just kinda wait around the outskirts untill the loggers shut down and then feast before the engine housings are even cool. if this guy is doing this type of thing all the time then these deer are used to it ...... so go kill the big guy

I grew up on a farm. Tractors, combines and other big machinery don't spook them one bit. I've had them run right next to me while working in the field. Heck, once we were clearing some brush and after felling a smaller tree, we were trimming the branches with chain saws - when at the other end two button bucks were nibbling off an easy meal.
On the family farm the new neighbor likes to hunt - as long as it involves anything but sitting still. He drives his quad all over the place until about 6:30pm. Last Saturday I saw him drive within 50 yds of deer 3-4 times and they never stopped chewing their cudd. They would observe him but nothing indicated any nervousness at all.

They get used to farm equipment, noise, and machinery. It wouldnt bother me at all to hunt right by the farmhouse.
Pretty cool to see deer right by all the commotion though.
