I`m headed up north to the houghton lake area to grouse and deer hunt all next week.Just wondered if anyone up there is seeing any chasing/rut activity from the bucks yet?I realize its a bit early.Should they be getting cranked up by late next week that far north? Thanks so much for any help...Wahoo

I watched a 6 point harassing a group of 6 does for about 15 minutes last Saturday afternoon in southern Kalkaska Co. about 30 miles west of you. Unfortunately for him, he chased them to my end of the field and got a little too close. Now he's in my freezer.

There were 3 other small bucks that came out in the field together and they weren't interested in the does at all, but as soon as this guy came out of the woods he headed right for them.

You won't see active rut activity in the HL area until Nov. 5th'sh or later. No earlier.

A couple of us went to St. Helen last weekend and hunted Saturday night. Didn't see a thing. Sat. morning and Sun. we did alot of scouting, checked out some scrape lines that get active when they're in rut and there was little activity. We covered about 12 mi. according to my gps so it's a little early. Don
