View Full Version : I forgot what a bucket of Perch looked like!

Well, anybody that has read any of my recent posts knows I have been hard headed and keep running to Canada in search of the schools of Perch. Every trip over there has been slow but it keeps getting a little better each time. Yesterday my wife, son and I headed across and set down in an area that has been productive in past years but hadn’t produced this year (for me anyway). The action was pretty steady but not to the point of pulling many double headers. By 11 o’clock, we had filled a 7 gallon bucket which was close to 100 decent fish. :) Most of the fish were in the 9 – 10 inch range but we did have some good jumbos in the mix as well. About 11 AM, we got into a lull and impatient me decided to go searching for some active fish. Headed SE and made about 5 moves between the Bassett and Mitchells. Every place we stopped we caught a few fish but we just couldn’t get the steady action we had earlier. I heard from a buddy that right after I left the 1st spot, a school came though and he pounded them for a while. :( Rule number one, don’t leave fish to find fish! :p That’s the 3rd or 4th time this year that the fish turned on right after I left! Patience dummy, patience! I’m pretty busy this week but I may get out Friday and at least one day on the weekend. If the pattern holds as far as each trip improving, I’m hoping for limit catches. Of course I always hope for that! :p Anyway, here are a couple pics of our good bucket. 7 gallons of some of the best eating around. We did start to work on filling a 5 gallon bucket but didn’t get too far. All in all, we ended up with 120 keepers. Man, I love fall! :)

Very nice. Might have to put the search for the 40#er on hold. Now I need to find a crew with licenses to harrass the Queens fish.

Hey Paul, your welcome to come with me. Actually, it seemed like mostly a morning bite. We could throw some rods and big baits in the cabin for when they shut down! :p

Ed, you're way ahead of me in Perch per gallon of fuel! ;) In the beginning of the season, I almost had to measure it by gallons of fuel per Perch! :yikes: :p

Looks like a blast John. Do you know if you can buy a license on line? I love catching them as much as eating them. Drop me a line when you have room.

I'm looking at the calandar for my trip in mid November. Haven't picked out a date yet until I hear from my buddy down there. I'll keep you posted.

Esox!!!!! I'm Here! I'm Here! Got a license already!

I like fishing the Canadian side but my 18 footer gets me all beat up on the way back in. It's amazing how the water on the Canadian side of the shipping channel can be smooth with a little chop but as soon as you cross back into U.s> waters the washing machine waves pop up.
