hey all,

I've been searching for a broad head for my wife to shoot. I'm pretty sure it'll be a 100 grain head, but I'm not set on Muzzy or Thunderheads. I was thinking of getting a head with a cut on impact tip. Something that won't loose much of the energy pushing through the hide. What suggestions do you guys have for slower bows.

Thanks
Andy

Any Razor sharp cut on contact head gets my vote.
I always used two blades when using my self bows.

Cannot go wrong with a 100 grain Magnus Stinger, 2 or 4 blades.

The new nap nitron looks awesome, very sharp, durable, and fly like feildtips. For less poudage and slower bows it may be hard to beat.check out broadhead tests.com they give it a very high rating.I think gandermountain sells them.

I shoot a real slow bow and am sticking with the cut on contact 2 blades.
Like Fl said Those magnus stingers look really good.

....thanks for the quick responses.

To address a couple of points that have been brought up, she will not be anywhere near the 50's in KE which is why I am really only thinking of fixed blades. I happend to of fallen in love with the Rocky Mountian Gator XP's however I really think an expandible is the wrong call for her setup. I do really like the cut on impact tips that the Gators have instead of the angled penitrating point that is on the Thunderheads.

by the way I do have the correct formula for KE don't I?

(Speed * Speed * Arrow Weight) / (450240)

Thanks
Andy

Farm Legend and Arioh,

I've checked out the Magnus Stingers on Cabelas website and had a question. How much of a difference does the bleeder blade make? It looks to me like it's just a 3/4" blade offset from the two main blades. Is this correct? How much more resistance do you think that they will add to the broad head, should I stick with simply a two blade version?

Thanks
Andy

2 Blade will be better IMO for penetration if for nothing other than reduced drag.
Magnus, Zwickey, Steelforce (a favorite of mine), Simmons (maybe too heavy but good solid heads)

Another to check out (I haven't but it looks ferocious) is G5's "Shkote"

I'd go with a incredibly sharp 2 blade or an incredibly sharp 3 blade that has the compact style head like Niton, Rocket Ultimate steel, or the Titan from Wac'em archery.

Titelineso1... I don't think they make much of a differance at all as far as reducing penetration. In fact there are some that believe it helps by lessening drag on the shaft at the entrance wound.
I believe it is the old spring steel that Fred Bear offered on his 2 blade. If not it will probably be of something similar. It is very thin with a small cutting diameter that bends out of the way or sometimes breaks when it encounters a strong resistance like solid bone. The thought is to allow the arrow to keep going forward on slow moving arrows.
I took a 2 1/2 year old buck 4 years ago with one installed in an old Nugent blade. I got a straight down pass through using it with a 40 lb. bow.
My opinion is to forget about KE with the low poudage bow for hunting.
Go with a 2 blade and as heavy an arrow that you can get good flight with.
A goood accurate shot is what will put them down.
Good luck

One nice thing about the 2 blade like the ones above is there are hone stones available to sharpen them quickly--like a little touch up after using them.

Use a wicked sharp 2 blade head from a well tuned bow and you should be pulling the arrow out of the dirt after a well placed shot. My cousin shoots a 42lb compound and with super sharp 2 blade heads he gets complete penetration.

Hey buddy, long time no talk! I think I know exactly what you're looking for, its called the G5 montec. They are built like a cement truck and cut on impact. I just so happen to know of a store close to my house that has them if you want to take a look. Shoot me a PM or call me sometime!

My little brother shot his first deer this year using Magnus Stinger 4 blade in the 85gr size. The doe was quartering away at 15yds. The arrow went between the ribs, hit the edge of the heart, between the ribs again, and stopped at the far leg. It had 2 holes, and the arrow eventually fell out the bottom hole about 75yds later. This was using a browning kids bow at 40lbs. The doe was a good size doe, dressing out at 140lbs. Hope that helps ya.
