My bow is not only 10 years old but in severe disrepair. I found a crack in the limb, the sight is bent, the nock point is off, I have 2 arrows left, my string is about shot. It is dialed in up to 20 yds but after missing an easy shot the other night I lost total confidence in my piecemeal machine. I did practice 3-4 nights a week all of september too. I have wanted to replace it for a few years now and as of recently I finally can. I need some good suggestions on some midrange bows that wont break the bank.(under 500 complete) I am an avid waterfowler and usually only deer hunt the evenings. I am not a beginner I am actually a fairly accomplished bowhunter but I have been totally out of the Archery game for the past 5 years and have no clue where to start when it comes to the new brands and technical advances. I am planting a rye plot and do not plan on bow hunting again till around the end of the month so I will have time to practice with it and get it dialed in. Please Help!

Howdy, RF-

You've taken that all-important first step by posting here! Please check many of the previousposts in this forum; that question is posted many times by many members, and a search will yield a lot of valuable insight.

Also, check the member classifieds here; several very helpful and knowledgable members have posted bows for sale, and in most cases you wouldn't go wrong there....

Good luck!

Whatever you do, don't shoot a bow with a worn string and a cracked limb! It is not just consistency you have to worry about. It is dangerous and the limbs could explode. There are a lot of good bows in that price range. Look at Cabelas on-line to get some ideas. Good luck to you! <----<<<

I understand the Dangers thats why I have put the ole girl down and am aggresively in the market for a new one. I would have done this a couple months ago but I noticed some of these problems while sitting in the treestand the other night. I definately do not want an Exploding bow in my hands.

Reflex gamegetter. Usually no more than 250.00 and comes with the cam.5 system...the same exact cam system found on the top of the line hoyts. It's also relatively fast at 295fps IBO rating.

If you have a place around you that sells bowtech, check out their tomcat package. It comes with the sight, rest, quiver, wrist sling, and is a forgiving great shooting bow for around $439.00. Check it out before you buy anything else. I sell hoyt, martin, parker, pse, and bowtech and I think for that money it is the best package out of the box.

Go see Rick at MC Sports. He is the only person in this town that I let work on my bow. He is honest and will set you with what you want. He won't push a cadillac when all your looking for is a escort.

Hope it all works out for you.

Just noticed you're from Traverse...seriously, check out Gauthiers...they have a few gamegetters as well as a few PSE Bruins...Wouldn't trust anyplace else than a pro shop. Jim would hook you up nicely.

Jim is a good friend of the family and I plan on visiting there tonight. I just want some ideas so I can narrow down some high end and low end stuff so I can save time. I looked at a Parker Hunter Mag combo at lunch and it felt great and looked good as well. Felt very natural in my hands especially at full draw. I am on a budget so I want the best bow for my dollar.

Now I'll be the first to admit that I don't know much about bows, however I was in a situtation where I bought a bow this year.

Originally I bought a Browning Lightning, but took it back to Jays, without ever shooting it, and bought the bow I was planning on buying when I was there the first time. It is the PSE Firestorm Lite. What a cool bow, very short (30"), a big forgiving brace hieght (8"), and really light weight (3.2 lbs.).

My whole family shoots Mathews, and have always said how great thier bows are compared to everything else. Well, when they saw and shot my bow, almost everyone was impressed, and my father-in-law who JUST BARELY bought his Mathews for $750+ was wishing he would have got seen the Firestorm Lite before he bought the other bow. It would have saved him $350, as my bow was $400.

Again, I am not a pro, definately a beginner, but I love my bow. I am glad that I went back and got it instead of keeping the bow that I bought oringally.

Check out Howie's sport shop in Chase on US 10 in Lake County. He has his own line of bows, made in Michigan and really nice. He knows his stuff and has previously helped design for a major name bow.
Most bows are actually made from parts from only a few manufacturers. The source for his limbs and riser is the same as several other name brands. They are priced in the $300 range.

I paid $370 for a new Mathews FX last year . It isn't the top of the line model with all the bells and whistles ,but I would have to say it's one of the best quality bows for the money . I would also recommend Hoyt ,AR ,Darton,Bowtech,PSE, Whisper Creek . All are good bows ,with Whisper Creek being new to the market . They are getting rave reveiws here in Tennessee .
Try them all and see what fits you and your budget .

I ended up getting a great deal on a Parker Hunter Mag. Complete package including hardcase, broadheads, string wax, and a bow that is ready to shoot but just needs to be sighted in and practiced with for $311 out the door. Gotta love Gander mountain and theor price match plus double the difference. Thanx for the Input from all of you. Now I need to zero the beast and practice hopefully I will be ready to hunt by next weekend.
