my five year old son almost got hit by a car the other day by driving his big wheel into the street. lucky it was an older lady driving slow and not some young kids driving fast. the lady was able to stop in time. scared my son real bad.

my wife and I have been telling him over and over about the dangers of running in the street. well, yesterday I took my son up north to look at some properties. we came across a dead deer by the side of the road. I decided to stop the car and show him the deer. he was really interested and started asking why it died. I told him because the deer ran out in the street without looking and got hit by a car. He got upset about hearing that. so I told him that could have been him the other day, and how sad we would feel if that happened to him.

to further my point, I stopped at a friend's house up north and lo and behold he hit another deer -- guy gets more deer with his car than anyone I know -- and my son was able to see the damage the deer caused.

well tonight no running in the street. now he's coming and getting me or mom to walk him across the street.

hopefully this will continue.

just something I wanted to share with everyone.

I know the feeling i to have a 5 year old and has to X the street to play with his friends and it bothers me because the kids that drive the cars now a days have the radio up and the banging down the street and just dont care.
Im 32 maybe im getting old but i dont remember flying down a side street juct for that reason i will have to try the deer thing that sounds like a good idea thanks

good luck

Great idea Big Buck~ i have a 2 & 3 year old I think I will try that on.....I'll bet that really hit home.

Since we are talking about kid safety, I want to remind all parents to keep their kids away from dogs that they don't know. This weekend at our Safari Club Picnic some people brought a medium size dog with them, they were constantly telling people that their dog dosen't bite........I little later in the day that dog sent a 7 year old to the hospital a pretty bad bite wound to the upper arm...........To all dog owners (and I love dogs) I know its fun to bring your pets to group outings and such, and show them off, but FYI it makes others, especially with kids, uncomfortable.
