I have a circa 1978 Bear compound that my son wants to tune up for me to use this year. Should I worry about limbs breaking or anything like that?

I would have a reputable shop go over it just in case. Give it a good visual yourself....strings probably old/dry and ready to be replaced. Look at the risor for any small cracks and do the same with the limbs. Unfortunately, you may not beable to tell by looking though. A shop can tell if the limbs are holding poundage and holding it evenly. If it can't thats a sign of a possible weak limb or other issues.

Didn't the 78' compound bears have steel limbs and risers? steel cables and steel wire strings?

If it is what I am thinking of, it would be worth having it checked out but it should last for eternity.
